I managed to find an uncombined UVB bulb, it's a coil (I think). I know the bar ones are better but this is the best one available in the country currently (you can't buy the bar ones here, I'm getting one imported in December)

what level of uvb in uW/cm² should a beardie be having? he's around 7 months old and I'm trying to figure out what distance it should be from the basking spot/bottom of the tank.

thanks

Ok first of all can you order from Amazon? If so I recommend you do this right away--- the coils are NO good I cant even recommend a brand to get for a coil they are so bad. Can you get the dragon outside for good UVB? At this point your dragon is getting sick and will continue to get sick w/ correct UVB!

there's lots of UVB outside - I live in an area pretty similar to the natural beardie climate anyway so I intend to spend as long as I can outside there with him! I do have a combined UVA and UVB heat bulb backup just incase the coil's bad, but I was warned it could be insufficient UVB. would that be better than the coil?

as far as I'm aware Amazon don't deliver to my country but I'll look into getting one sent to a different address and then shipped here.

normally I'd never (and I mean never) adopt before obtaining the best equipment, but the setup at the pet store is atrocious (no substrate, no live food just veggies, a single combined UVA-UVB bulb in the dead centre of a 1'x1'x1 container with no cool or warm side) so I'm just desperate to get him out of there as soon as possible as he's getting sick there and he's quite underweight!

what do you recommend for the time being? assuming I can get the correct bulb delivered in around 3 weeks if I can get the Amazon address thing to work? I just don't want to leave him in the current place. again, I'd never adopt without the correct equipment but it's kind of an emergency.

thanks so much

thank you, the arcadia has been ordered, should be a few days. will the coil work until then or should I use the combined UVA-UVB? (I haven't actually adopted him yet but I don't want him staying there in the store any longer due to the conditions)

Get him out as soon as possible - what size tank and the screen will determine placement and distance - is the screen a fine mesh like a screen door- or a wide hole type? UVA/ Uvb is a mvb?

I'm going to go pick him up tomorrow - the tank is 45cm tall so I think it's going to have to go inside to be at the right distance - but the screen is a fine mesh yeah. the UVA is a mvb (situated inside the tank 25cm above the basking spot for optimal temp.) The current coil UVB I have isn't mvb but I won't be using that for more than 3 days (replacing it with the arcadia T5 UVB you recommended when it arrives).

overall the tank is large (65cm w x 45cm d x 45cm h) and all of the rest of the bulbs, thermometers etc. are set up, basking spots, warm and cool side dens and food/water bowls and a heat mat for the night. should be installing the Arcadia T5 UVB when it arrives around the 14th. I set up all the lamps etc a few days ago and have been monitoring temperature and humidity every day to make sure it's all set for when he arrives.

I am coming up w/ a 35 gallon tank?? That is not that big -- he needs at least a 40 gallon minimum -- I would try and get him into a 120 gallon at soon as you can -- how old is the dragon? Get rid of the coil -- use the MVB what is the brand please?

the dragon's around 7 months but small due to the conditions at the store (getting him vet checked this afternoon to check for any sicknesses he's picked up), not sure of his actual measurements rn. the mvb bulb doesn't provide much UVB light at all somehow? not sure why but it says so on the box (that's why I bought the coil, to use them both together at the same time) so I don't want to use just that by itself. it's Pro-Rep brand.
the tank's 40 gallon I researched beforehand to make sure there's space (the measurements in cm are rough), definitely bigger than some of the setups I've seen on here, I can send a photo later if needs be. I do intend to replace it when he outgrows it of course but this was the biggest one we could get so quickly.

40 is fine for now ---- NO ENEMAS at the vet --- they can cause a lot of harm or kill him ---- if they want a fecal take one in at a later date---- shut the coil off its doing no good and use the MVB as a heat source -- the UVB you have coming is a great bulb its going to need to be unobstructed or in the tank placed directly above the basking decor piece 12-15 inches --- change that bulb out in appox 10-11 months -- the MVB should be a solid clear bright white bulb -- NO off white yellowish bulb please--- His growth has been stunted by improper UVB and possibly basking temps -- those temps need to be taken w/ a digital probe thermometer 95-100 for a adult dragon or a dragon 6 months old and up -- you got him young enough he may be able to catch up

thanks so much. he's all moved in and seems healthy. took him to the vet (no enema!!) and she said he was healthy, turns out he's only about 3-4 months old!
I'm using a digital probe and the temperatures are steadily in the range.
his sleeping and eating patterns are healthy currently and the arcadia bulb arrives tomorrow 👍

thanks for all your help, he transitioned into the new home so smoothly. eating lettuce and crickets twice a day and sleeping/waking on a routine schedule, spending plenty of monitored time outside in the sun too. he fell asleep on my chest last night!! (I popped him back in the tank after about 20 mins)

:)

he's currently just sitting on my chest/shoulder until I notice he's getting too warm and take him inside. I do have a plastic tote though.

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
cookie event at my library today, quite fun! Made some bracelets for my comrades too, to give them at church in the morning. Got a busy day tomorrow even though I’m off work… i go back on tuesday so atleast I’ll have 2 days off to rewind….then back to hell lol
The head tilt tho! Aaaahhh
