Im buying a UVB floureecent bulb dis friday. Im worried because the store has no Repti-sun 10.00 only 5.00 SO were buying Repti-Glo 10.00 instead is Repti-Glo and Repti-Sun the same? Second problem the Flourecent bulb has no space it takes over the whole top so we cant fit in the heat lamp. what shud i do? BTW we have the bottom heat pad.
just buy a reptisun 10.0 online, beardies can easily go without UVB for the length of time it takes to get the bulb shipped to you, heck there are many beardies that have been rescued from owners that never gave them UVB or gave them poor UVB for their whole life's
i have 2 adopted beardies, one 1-1/2 years old and the other 1 year old, both only had reptiglo 10.0 compact bulbs and neither are showing signs of eye problems or MBD that is serious, they both are under a reptisun 10.0 now and overall they are healthy with little to no sign of MBD, very active and strong, only time will tell how they fare i suppose but so far so good for both of them
i thought reptiglo and reptisun were the same... but sadly they're not. reptiglo is easy to find in stores, but made my beardie lethargic. she was always hiding from the light. when i switched to reptisun she perked up alot and started eating more
it has to be a reptisun 10 too because reptisun 5 doesnt put out enough uvb.
I think you guys are being very rational. You all say Only this works and this is from personal experience. Sometimes 1-2 trys wont give u a accurate showing. You guys are demanding certain brands certain foods. If Certain brands were that horrible for them they can be sued. You guys are trying it once comparing it and saying it doesnt work. Im not gonno beleive '' Personal Experience'' Show me real facts online. Repti-Glo cant be that dangerious or else they can be sued and shouldnt even be sold. ALSO you guys still didnt answer on how i could fit Heat lamp and UVb light.
this site has all the information and proof you should need to decide to buy a reptisun or at the very least stick with tube bulbs, the tube 10.0 reptiglo's do put off UVB but not as much as reptisun 10.0's they perform more like reptisun 5.0's do at close to half the output of reptisun 10.0's
this is fine for many species of lizards like iguana's because they do not need high level's of UVB but bearded dragons coming from a more desert like environment have been shown to require more UVB than most other reptiles.
this graph shows pretty clearly how much better reptisun 10.0's perform compared to everything else they tested, only good Mercury Vapor Bulbs like the megaray can output more and at further distances.
keep in mind that beardies should have something like 40 mW/CM uv at a minimium and more is better to keep them completely healthy, this means that reptisun 10.0's need to be without a screen or reflector in use about 10" from your beardies basking spot, other brands and level bulbs will need to be anywhere from 4-6" from them and that is very unrealistic to achieve

You are of course entitled to believe anything you wish, but remember, you came on this board asking for assistance. Most companies simply exist to make money, they don't need to be the "best", and they simply weasel out of lawsuits by being vague in the description of their products. As far as I know, the lizards are not able to communicate with humans, so unfortunately 'personal experience' is the best you are going to get.
If the enclosure is to small to contain the UVB light and the heat lamp, you can look into using an MVB bulb that provides both, or upgrade to a larger enclosure.
Well, I have to agree, half of the people on here don't know anything about UVB bulbs, they just say what they heard. I used a reptisun 5.0 on my beardies for a year, and they are absoultly the healthest beardies I have ever seen. My experience is if you keep a reptisun 5.0, 3-8 inches away from your beardie you will be fine, I used a reptiglo 5 cause my bulb broke and my beardie acted no different with the reptisun or the reptiglo, alot will dissagree but that's my personal and opinion, with my experince, I have learned about this forum that some think you can't bend the rules a little but I have tested it andy beardies are very heathly and produced 39 eggs and all have hatched. You can beleive my personal experience ( even though every one dissgraces my for my age) but I have proved alot and I wish people would listen sometimes.
I have a 55 gal. tank I'm using for my terrarium. On the top I have two compact 18" fluorescent lights. One is a standard aquarium hi-vis bulb, it really shows off the colors. The other is my UVB. I'm using a Zilla UVB 50. I also have two clamp lights without the clamps. One is my basking light, an All Living Things 150w. The other is an infrared heat lamp for night use, it's an All Living Things 100w infrared. All Living Thing bulbs are at Petsmart. They were about 2 dollars cheaper than the other brands so we'll see how they work.
Anyway, that's how I got all my lights to fit on top of the screen. It's a bit of a pain for feeding time. But, I only have to move the fluorescent lights and slide the screen about 1/2 way over. I hope this helps your dilemma.
Hmm im seeing many problems now. IF i want UVB flourecent bulb its gonno be about 20'' from the bottom of the cage. IF i want heat lamp and UVB its gonno be 34'' from cage. Hmm Mercury Vapor BUlbs i might try that. Any brand in perticular i should buy? Also i thankyou for your online proof. Can i get a photo of how someones cage looks who uses UVB flourecent and heat lamp. Also can i see proof that beardies dont detect heat from there bottoms.
I want to clarify one thing with how the Megaray is currently being manufactured, although they do emit more then adequate UVB and are safe due to the coating you may have to add an additional heat bulb based on the size of the tank. Honestly if it were me I would just go with the reptiSUN 10.0 and mount it inside the tank which can be done easily using heavy duty velcro or even 3m hooks. The choice is yours of course I just want to make sure you are armed with all the info Many of us here can you feel the pain of the decision you are trying to make here.I myself have lost alot of money this year changing from one bulb to the next because of the issues with the MVB bulbs and the only bulb that has yet to experience any issues is in fact the reptiSUN 10.0 and the Arcadia 12%(only UK) so for me it is always going to be better safe then sorry until this MVB thing gets worked out.In regards to other linear fluorescents well the decision is yours and as you caan see by the testing data on the UV boards NONE come close to being as adequate in my opinion regardless what others may say.
