So lately my bearded dragon, Norbert, has been eating less and less. I've tried to transition him to veggies (I mostly feed collards I grow in my garden) but I still give dubia every day/every other day. However he's just been ignoring his food. He used to be a little pig-- gobbling up whatever he could, but now he'll eat a few shreds of collard and if I shake his dubia in front of him he'll occasionally eat them all but often only touches a few. I gave him some butternut squash today and he ate 2 or so pieces and then ignored them. I recently weighed him on a kitchen scale and he's only 260 grams. He's 17.5 inches or so, but he still has a teenager's body. Am I doing something wrong? How do I get him to eat more? Also, I don't know if this is relevant but he has adenovirus- it flared up when he was a baby but we took him to the vet and he got better. Anyway thank you very much, I just want him to get better.
Hi Claire....it might have something to do with his adeno. Also , have you had a fecal test done ? His weight isn't TOO bad for his size, but he could definitely be bigger and should have more of an appetite. Sometimes you can tempt them with something new like hornworms , butters or supers. Hopefuly it's just a bit of slowdown as he approaches adulthood and his appetite will return.
Thanks I'll try to get a fecal... I did try supers a week or two ago and he usually ate all of the ones I've offered. I also tried hissers but he wasn't as interested. He hasn't popped in a few days and I tried a long soak today but all he was interested in was trying to escape the tub lol. He's otherwise pretty active and normal, so I don't know what it could be. Thank you!
