Hi guys! so this is my first time owning a translucent bearded dragon and I've been doing some reading around and found that a lot of people say that they have the same husbandry as any other bearded dragon. I see on some websites that their eyes cause them some discomfort if left in the sun too long. is this true? also, ive notticed my beardie (Gouda) gets dry skin. at least, i think it is. her skin gets a pale color and then i water her and it turns back to normal. she has the same set up as all my other beardies and shes the only one that gets pale looking. i was thinking that maybe shes shedding and i couldnt really tell. but i have had her for about half a year now and i have yet to see her shed. which makes me think back again to if the light is too hot and its dehydrating her and if it bugs her eyes.
thanks
I have a translucent (Hypo Trans) who is just over three years old. I had read that they were more sensitive to UV rays and that they required higher humidity. His breeder (a well known and very respected breeder in Canada) advised me that those were not issues that I had to be concerned about with the stock he was breeding at that time (which leads me to believe that it was an issue at one point in time).
It might be best to just ask your beardie's breeder what s/he recommends. If it bugged her eyes you would probably be seeing behavioural evidence of it.
My husbandry is exactly the same with Orion as it would be with any other beardie. The only things I have to compensate for are his personal quirks: he can be fussy about veg and only drinks in the bath, so he gets several baths a week to ensure he keeps hydrated. He's a good shedder.
Thank you so much for replying so fast! i should try to contact her breeder. but i go onto his website and he no longer sells beardies. i think he was more of a rinki-dink guys at a reptile show kind of person. maybe that's why he was selling her. I am not sure. But thanks anyway!
