My beardie is 9 months old and seems completely done with his crickets. For the past 3 weeks has only eaten 2-4 a DAY!!! So i've been giving him 3-4 superworms about every 3rd or 4th day and of course his veggies.
I know this is typical diet when they reach 1 year old, nervous that he won't be getting enough protein with a few months to go to reach a year.
Is this ok??
As long as you are offering a good salad, he should be fine. Keep en eye on him that he isn't loosing any weight, but if he is eating his salad he may just not be interested in bugs. How big is he?
He will eat the superworms, very willingly lol, every few days,,,don't want to start giving them every day because i hear they're very fatty.
Doesn't seem to be losing weight. He doesn't eat as much salad as he used to but i've starting mixing it up a bit with different veggies so may just be getting used to it.
He's 17.5 inches
Oh, that's for sure.....they're like MacDonalds to him!! lol ....so i can see why not wanting the healthier crickets haha.
I know it's ok when they're adults to only have the protein every few days,,,,just little worried since he's only 9 months....but guess since he's getting some protein...
Yep. They get dusted every time.
Is your dragons behavior basically the same as it has been?
Pepper is about the same age, and went on a superworm only strike for a while. I limited how many supers he got a day (just a few because of fat) and had a bowl of roaches to free feed from, he also gets a big salad everyday. It's up to him what and if he eats and given that he is healthy I know he won't starve himself. He's still growing and gaining weight so who am I to say he needs to eat more.
When I spoke to my vet about it (I was worried at his loss of appetite) she said she hasn't met many dragons that would turn down a superworm.
I use supers as a staple with no problems for my guys. Mine are adults though so I feed them five every other day and greens all week long - seems to work well for me and them.
