Sorry for crappy picture quality, my camera isn't working so I had to use my ipod.
If you can see on his right foot two of Maynard's toes seem to be a bit mangled, they are still attached but they are barely attached and are bent to the right. He doesn't seem to be in any pain but I just want to know if there is anything I can or should do.
Keep the wounds clean and use a antibiotic cream. If it gets infected then he will need a vet. You also need to separate him and the dragon that chewed on his foot, it will more if you don't.
That does look pretty bad.
Do you house him with another dragon?
Do you leave crickets in his tank with him over night or for extended periods during the day?
You will need to make sure and have a non particulate substrate in the tank for him, and keep the areas clean by using an antibiotic ointment on the toes. Are they looking infected yet?
Ok well I took him out to look at it, it looks like his toes aren't even connected. They have very little holding them on and I'm at a loss of what to do. One of the toes is a little black but I don't know if that is the infection starting or just part of his color. Should I take him into the vet? And as far as ointments go, what shoould I use? It's my first problem with something like this :/
If his toes are starting to turn black, then that is necrosis or the tissue dying. I would take him to the vet if they are looking that bad.
The antibiotic ointment is like neosporin or polysporin either one.
What has caused the mangling, do you have crickets in the tank with him, or another dragon housed with him?
I've been keeping neosporin on it, trying to keep it from getting an infection. It doesn't appear to be healing up to quickly and I'm thinking ill need to remove the toes since they are hanging off.
I removed the toes, and the part that was a little black came off with them. I don't know if it's just me but the place I was putting the neosporin had died and fallen off. I'm using the Walgreen's brand triple strength, let me know if that's ok to use.
Here's some pictures, after his toes came off I put the neosporin on. When the toes came off there was no blood and it looks like it was healing under the toes.
The pic is kind of dark, he is much lighter than the pic makes him look.
You did just fine. How is he doing now?
The triple strength antibiotic ointment is great, you can continue to use that. Are you soaking him in a warm bath daily also?
How is his appetite doing?
Ok good just making sure, and I've been giving him a bath a day. He seems to have a big appetite and he seems to be doing well. Thanks for the help, it's my first time with something like this.
Good, it sounds like he is doing pretty well then & no infection is setting in correct?
At least his appetite is good also.
If you need anything, just let us know.
One of his toes at the very tip is slightly dark, but it is hard to tell if it is brown or black. So it may just be part of his pattern.
And he's been sleeping a lot. He comes out when I put in crickets or if I feed him some greens but he doesn't seem to be basking as much as he used to. Is this really anything to be worried about
