Tiles cause issues?

I have had my bearded dragon since August, and he is THRIVING! I love him so much! So I was asking in a Facebook group about something unrelated and it came up that my beardie is on tiles. I use slate tiles for his flooring. I LOVE them! I spot clean as needed, they retain just the right bit of warmth, trim his nails, and I know they will last a long time. But someone said that they can cause joint issues? I don`t have a picture of his enclosure, but along with tile as flooring he also has a hammock he is in a lot, climbing branches, a rock pile (which he LOVES running through for some reason - the rocks are obviously big enough that he can`t eat them), and a small planter with some edible plants in it. He doesn`t spend much time actually ON the floor. But I also did not find anything to support that tiles cause joint issues online when I was looking.

Is there any validity to this?

Some tiles can be harmful but the slate tile is one of the best terrarium substrate for beardies. it's non-particle substrate so is it a good option for beardies(Mostly babies and Juveniles but they can work on adults sometimes)

yes they can cause joint issues but as long as he can get off of them like you said he spends alot of his time on the hammock he should be fine- I am not a fan of FB groups --

I am not either. Actually my original question was if anyone had made tile work for ball pythons. I figured the answer was no because there would be so many issues with it, but I was curious. I got put down for asking that, lol! My beardie I would say spends more time off the ground than on it, lol! He is only down on the tile to eat, poop, and throw tantrums or play in his rock pile.

I went out, bought tile, had it cut and was ready to put it in when I read it can be hard on their joints. So instead I now use linoleum. I had previously used carpet and shelf liner but I found both of them to be a pain to clean.

Did you find any linoleum that looked nice? I guess in some ways that would be a lot easier to clean. He spends so little time on the ground though.

We went with this one. We wanted one without grout lines so it would maybe look more like sand. It's ok but I'm keeping my eye open for a better looking one.

It does have some texture, not enough to file nails but enough that they can grip to not to slide around. If you do plan on switching you could always leave a piece of tile in there to still file the nails.
