My beardie, Chester, has been on calci-sand since he was 6 months (he is now over a year old) and we have not had any trouble with it. But, I was wondering if I should switch to tile instead? I heard they are easier to clean and good for his nails and stuff. But, my beardie is a bit of a daredevil and likes to climb on top of his "tree" and launch himself off. Could this be a problem with the tiles? I don't know if I would trust him to land on something harder than the sand he has. Could he get injured from landing hard on the tiles?
Tile is a better option takes away the impaction issue. Just make nice cuts and use a tile that is natural like stone not the glazed. That should do well
My girl has taken a running start and thrown herself off of my bed. Granted it was carpet, but she certainly didn't land it gracefully lol. No problems =P She's full grown too, so yours will certainly be fine. The impact force for these animals is just extremely small because they weigh so little. So what may seem crazy to you isn't that big of a deal to them. Its definitely not a proportional thing either, as you may be inclined to think that he's jumping his own body height and then compare that to an impact of yourself falling maybe 5-6 feet, but all things accelerate at the same rate when falling. So him falling 12 inches is the same as you falling 12 inches, but his momentum will be probably 1/200th of what yours would be, if that.
