Hi, everyone! My name is Megan and this is my seventh day as a new beardie owner. If you have read my previous posts you will see I hadn't intended to be one so soon, but fate would have it that I fell in love. His name is Googlet and he is really great. He is very sweet and has never had a problem with being handled. As a matter of fact he is snuggled up on my neck right now. He is about 7.5 inches and has a great appetite for both crickets and greens and is very active. I am a little concerned about one of his eyes though because he closes it more than the other. I think his UVB tube may be irritating him. It is a Zilla desert 50 which I plan to replace very soon with the recommended Reptisun 10. Should I turn off the zilla bulb for a day and see if the eye seems better? He has a standard 60 watt household bulb for heat and it keeps his temps about 100 in the basking area. His eye is clear with no discharge and he does use it to look at me, but he closes it when he doesn't need to use anything in particular and leaves the other open. He is temporarily in a twenty gallon and I have a 55 gallon for him until I can build his custom vivarium. Here are some links to his photos. Enjoy.
I can get it Sunday if it is that urgent. Our petsmart carries them, but it is a bit more expensive than petmoutain.com. I do want my little guy to be comfortable so the few extra dollars is a small expense for him to be healthy.
Thanks! This site really is a great source of information. I have been ghosting it for some time getting information before I got my little guy. He ate a bunch of crickets this morning that were gut loaded with collard greens. His behavior has changed a little. I think he may be getting ready for a shed. He is a little skittish and actually gave me an arm wave as if to say "please don't pick me up, my skin feels funny". He looks great though, and his eye no longer seems irritated. Still going to pick up that tube though. Can't be too safe.
