I was at a reptile pet store today. Place where I bought my 2 beardies. And the mother of 1 of our beardies is pregnant again at the store. And since the manager or whatever he is knows us, told us the mother is pregnant again and he can't have anymore babies as no one is really buying his current babies which are very small. So he is going to put them in a fridge and kill them once the mother lays them or he is gonna feed the eggs to the other iguana's and bosch monitors. Which is terrible. And I would love to take them on, but don't have enough funds or tank. So wanted to find out from the south african members if they can maybe take them on or just know of a number to contact. Cause that is animal gruelty and disgusting...
That is an unfortunate call, I agree.
They are eggs, & it would be better to not let them hatch out if he cannot care for them, than to just go ahead & hatch them out. They are not developed at all, being a new egg so it is not as hard on the heart to think about feeding them or freezing them.
The only other thing I could suggest is to try to get hold of an animal rescue facility to see if they can help out any.
Can the store manager separate the male & female so she doesn't continue to lay fertile eggs?
