So my bearded dragon is just over 4 months old. He has been growing at such a fast rate and about 2 weeks ago he had a fully body shed. Once he finished with that his tail shed and then once again he finishedthe tail so his head shed. He is ALWAYS shedding something..he is very very healthy. He eats about 50+ crikets per feeding 3 times a day and also phoenix worms. He loves his greens and overall is a healthy active beardie ...but 3 days ago i noticed his tail was due for shed again. Not surprised. But he has it a pale grey color. My friends came over that same day and i fed him crickets while they were there. My stupidest friend out of all 3 thought it wud b funny if he wud pull my dragons tail right before he wud eat the cricket. Well he did. He didnt do it roughly he barely pulled it but now its day 3 and im starting to get worried about my beardies tail no shedding ..i read some articles stating it could take a while but my beardie has never taken a while to shed. Hes still always active simce that day and is still eating like a maniac haha. But im just worried maybe he hurt his tail and it is affecting his shed. Any thoughts??
Give him warm baths twice a day up to his shoulders for 15-20 minutes. You will probably need to change out the water to keep it warm. And drain/refill right away if he poops. Watch him closely so nothing unfortunate happens. That will probably help some. And smack that friend of yours for me, will ya?
Good luck,
Esther
Thank you so much for ur help. And for helping me on this topic..yea i already punched him in the stomach right after actually. I was very upset. Thank u. Hopefully nothing happens
Sorry to reply so late i had to work. Thank you for showing interest first of all. This means alot o me and this website is my life as my beardie is my life. Hes doing OK. He is super duper active even if the weather is colder it does not slow him down. His appetite is actually increasing instead of decreasing haha. He is such a growing boy but like i said his tail is still very pale and wont shed. It has just been getting paler and more paler and now his back looks like its about to shed. Tonight i took him out to bathe him and he was watching tv with me for about 3 minutes and ran to a spot on my bed under the sheets and is now sleeping so i didnt get to bathe him. I will bathe him 2morro tho. Im just wondering do u think he will be okay? I massage his tail and he doesnt show any discomfort but sumtimes he will move as if saying okay thats enough. His tail is very strong and lots of muscle on it. Any suggestions on how i can help the shed or just let nature take its toll?
I also put a sign on my bedroom door saying DO NOT TOUCH THE BEARDED DRAGON UNLESS GIVEN PERMISSION. nd i also put if u pull his tail u will suffer consequences haha
He is fine. As a dragon gets older, it takes longer for them to shed. It will come off when its ready and nothing you do will make it happen any sooner. Your friend pulling his tail has nothing to do with the slow shedding process.
