When I came home from work my bearded dragons tail seemed fine, everything looked fine. I went ahead and gave Remy the usual 15-20 crickets about a few small super worms (has been eating them for about a week now with no digestive issues). Remy's tail started turning black, about 3/5's of the tail is black or atleast SUPER dark. Remy's been shedding for about a week now has shed: tail, all four legs and some around the mouth. There is a small bit of dead scales at the tip of the tail and I have been bathing every 2-3 days to try to help loosen it up with no luck. I'm concerned because Ithis is my first beardie and find no clear answer on what can cause this or what harm can come from it. Please let me know any advice on what I should do
Hi there....there are quite a few threads about very dark tails. It looks scary at times, but is usually related to shedding and completely harmless. Can you post some pics ? To do so, upload pics to a site like photobucket, then copy/paste the img here.
Usually the blackish tip is related to retained shed. Try soaking your beardie with some water and a little bit of iodine (color should be weak tea) to try and get the retained shed.
However, I had the same issue with my dragon and the vet said Lillie had an infection and sometimes a darkened tail tip can mean they have an infection somewhere in their body. I don't want to worry you, but just from my experience
I agree that if you can post some photos it should be fairly easy for us to determine if there is an issue or not. More often than not the darkened color on the tail is normal and nothing to worry about but I'll be glad to take a look and try to confirm.
