Hello I suspected that my beardie Gerald has tail rot from an injury and I went to the vet and they confirmed it and gave baytril for an antibiotic he said it would “make his tail fall off” which I knew was not possible and his tail is looking worse and I think his tail may need to be amputated. That “vet” didn’t know what he was doing and was holding him upside down for too long when they can’t breath on their back and was being overly aggressive with him and didn’t give him a proper exam. I’m freaking out someone please let me know if this is okay…

Hello,

So sorry your dragon is having some trouble. Do you know what caused the injury, was his tail pinched
in something or is it from bad shed or a bite? Please post some pictures so we know what the extent of
the trauma is.
Is your dragon ok after his terrible vet appointment? That sounds traumatic for him, how awful! You are
right, simply giving Baytril or any antibiotic to help with a tail infection will not make the tail fall off. It may
ward off or help with infection, but, the infected area if not stopped will need to be amputated if it's that
serious.
How much Baytril has been given, what is the dose & strength of the solution? I just need his weight &
I will double check the dose for you.

Please try to get him to a good vet. If it is tail rot it needs to be treated pretty quickly. If it isn't then he should not be given antibiotics, they are hard on them most times. Like Tracie asked please post some pictures so we can try to help.
It's normal for their tails to darken towards the end and can be confusing at first.

Hello,

Yes, do try to get him to a vet that is qualified to do an analysis to be sure his issue doesn't get any
worse. Let us know how things are going.

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
