Ok, as I was feeding Spyke today he got a little over rambunxious and bit onto the syringe. I heard a crunch noise so when he release it I checked it and there was a piece missing. I rinsed it off to see if the piece had fallen in on itself but I think most likely he swallowed it. the piece was only about --- that big. I know that it CAN lead to impaction [and probably most likely will]. I can't get him to the vet as my mother won't take me...[I am doing my best to convince her though] Will it pass on its own? OR Is there something else I should be worried about?
Hi there, it's a good thing that you used a plastic syringe instead of a glass one. Can you give us an idea of the size of the piece that is missing? I suggest you keep him very well hydrated and tomorrow put a drop or two of vegetable oil in a small amt of baby food applesauce for him to lick off. That will help move things along. Rather than using a syringe, you might want to use a plastic medicine dropper instead. I use the toddler ones that are larger which actually gives you more control and would hopefully prevent a piece being bitten off. These work very well. You can read about it here. http://well.ca/products/pharmasystems-medicine-dropper_9649.html?well_id=89d9a86bcffd236fa884926e09adb355 And, here's a picture of it:
I saw your post a bit ago, and began searching to find a similar situation/thread, because I wasn't exactly sure what to suggest, but I know I'd seen this happen somewhere before.
Diane's got ya covered now, but I did happen to find the thread. So here it is, for some additional reassurance if nothing else:

Hope beardie passes it soon, and without incident.
Diane: THe missing piece was this big --- . as far as the hydrated I'll give him a bath tonight and then like 3 or 4 tomorrow...uhm the vegtable...was that oil? Cuz I read somewhere that putting some kind of oil in with baby food can help them pass stuff easier. and as for the dropper I will definitaley use that in the future!
Thank so much for your help
