Hi,
My little guy is about 3 months old now and for the past two weeks gets very scared when i try to pick him up from his tank.
either he runs away or he just started opening his mouth at me...like a warning for me to back off....
Not sure where this came from all of the sudden or what it means exactly but i figured someone could shed some light?
when i finally do pick him up he is fine....its just initially. tries to squirm out of my hand etc....once i have himout of the tank there are no issues.
Maybe go back to basics for a little while and just try holding yr hand in enclosure and let him get used to yr hand, u could also try offering a bit of food just to let him learn to trust you, one of my babies was a little wary when I first had her, I did this for a week or so and she is fine now.
I wouldn't worry about it. At the same age (3 months) my baby did the same thing. Would open her mouth, hiss, etc. Where she was fine with being handled before. Within a couple weeks she went back to normal. It's just a phase if you ask me
He just did a major shed on Friday. wondering if thats part of the reason.
after the shed he hast opened his mouth at me but still tries to run away when i want to pick him up
sounds like "that age"....
They certainly go through phases! BlueBelle had an attitiude for a week of this last month, (sheis 4 months) and was like huh?? Has she hit Beardie Puberty already yet or is this just PRE Beardie Puberty. ha! Things went back to normal after that week.
The fact that your beardie was going through a major shed im sure had ALOT to do with it, they can be aggitated during those sheds for sure. That is probably why she was opening her mouth at you. Like, "im totally uncomfortable, i love you, but go away!!" At least the gaping AT you has passed. So that is def some progress!!! In some time, I think it will go away soon and things will be back to normal
Keep us posted!!!!
xoxo, Em and BlueBelle
