Hi Everyone!

I hope you and your beardies are having a great holiday season :)
I was checking on Lily in her den and noticed she had stress marks on her belly. She's a nervous dragon and usually has them very faintly (you can see them in the Xmas photos I posted).

Is this normal? Do they get them when theyre brumating or cold?
Thanks for your help!

I didn't ever see any on Ruby, but I did see them on Sinatra occasionally while he was down. He also had them the first few days after he woke up.

Yeah she's not acting defensive or anything, but I've noticed them on her when she turns darker?

My boy also has this, while the girl is bright all the way. Could be that they just get cold and some dragons get more dark than others....
That being said, Luis will also get stress marks during or at the end of brumation if he's too warm too soon 🤷‍♂️
They really are complicated sometimes ;)

Mine also. Taco is a dragon that easily gets irritated.
Being defensive is (also) not his thing. He's more like "freeze" (don't move), hide (is motto could be: If in doubt, always hide!), and otherwise, jump off and hide. He behaved defensive only once (we have him for 1.5 years); this was towards my husband (Taco hadn't liked him at that time) who did some work inside of his enclosure going on for several minutes (and Taco hates new things). Then he did the quick sideways tilt on stretched-out legs for literally a second. No attempt to bite, however - I'd say he's too shy for that.

Regarding getting darker: He is usually darker in caves and during night. (Had seen this when I had - which I avoid normally of course- to switch on the light in the room where he is late at night. Then he was really dark like graphite.)

LOL! Taco sounds like a cat to me :) but Lily acted the same way when we first got her!

Thank you :D This really helped me gauge whether Lily was truly stressed or just brumation stuff

I know some cats who are similar to him, and some who are wayyys different from him.
He'd for sure not like the cuddlebug cats that seek you out. He's more like those quite independent cats who accept you, find out over time that such a human can be quite handy, and then maybe once in a while come for a snuggle.
(My in-laws foster cats.)
In May or June (don't know the hatch date), Taco will be 2 years old. Still the "in doubt, rather not", "watch from a distance", "freeze, watch it for 2 days, if it hasn't done any harm I can come closer" guy.
He's totally curious observing me doing things. But him trying new things or coming near new things? Uh...
He eats his veggies well (today: I offered 5 dubia, he took one, then went to the greens), but me introducing a new species of plant (he mostly eats his greens from live plants)? That thing... :D was observed some hours from one of his hides, motionless, then the day after he dared walking near it. Might take some time until he tries eating it in addition to the plant he is used to.
I made him a window seat (he loves watching out of the window from his enclosure) out of a large branch; I want to make him a ladder so he can go up and down on his own. Before investing time in making that ladder... I tried out whether he likes sitting there. He does, but the first few times I put him up there: quite motionless. (The view isn't totally new to him: View out of this window so far was only from my arm, view out of his enclosure goes in a different direction.) Today, for the first time he dared leaving the window seat, stepping down on the furniture next to it, and returning to the window seat.
At least I'm now convinced that when offered the ladder, he will likely accept it at least after a while. (This guy loves to climb. But new things...)

Is Taco a rescue beardie? I feel so bad that he's being so distant with you :( Perhaps you can try a bit of hand feeding as well. This helped Lily to trust me :)

No, Taco is not a rescue. I am his first human, and thanks to what I've read before getting his setup and him everything was on par from the beginning on. He was also taken care of very well at the reptile store (small reptile store of reptile enthusiasts).
Also at home never anything bad happened (we are ourselves introvert people, it's quiet here, not even a TV running, we do not have other pets that can be disturbing (have a fish tank which he loves, have hissing cockroaches of which he doesn't know), have no kids, visitors are not in his room). He's never been ill.
He also trusts me a lot: eats from my hands (took him however many months until he realized "hey, I can take this worms from that big being and it won't get angry but give even more!"), I can touch him everywhere (trained that with him a lot: lift a toe, put it back, touch tip of the nose, let him lick... we started with doing this just for 1 second, increased time... I can really touch any place on his body). I can put a harness on him, never any trouble with that - but I got him used to it very slowly with first just putting that harness next to him for a few seconds, later putting it on his back without actually closing it.
He's just shy and introvert. Usually very happy - bright colors, tail curved upwards - but ... introvert, independent. That guy won't run for me when I come home after work, he rather looks briefly like "okay, is there" (maybe not even head tilts, but those eyes more chameleon-style :D) and again looks out of the window. Now likes to come out more of his enclosure, before was more "my home is my castle" and wanted out maybe once a week or ways less like once each two weeks.
Usually hesitates when there are new things. He trusts me, yes, but he doesn't trust well "stuff".
He's a guy who rarely goes for the food immediately when I put it in. He looks, gets brighter and eats it later. (A few weeks ago he started sometimes eating it immediately.)
He's bored after 1 - 5 minutes of snuggles - he's rather into exploring. Or watching me doing crafts or such - he can watch me one hour, two hours... doing woodwork on the balcony (he's then indoors, enclosure faces a window and the balcony door which is a window of the complete room height).
He might get something new for his enclosure or outside (I do this rarely as he doesn't like it, but in the beginning I added more) - might not come close to it for weeks, but then he likes it.
The day I brought him home, a 3 months old beardie, I put the box I picked him up with (reptile store is here in the city) opened into his enclosure as he backed off and I didn't want to force him out. He didn't leave that open box for half a day, instead clinging to the very back of the box. For sure not a "little guy crawling out, begging for food".

So, that guy is fine, healthy, no bad past :) Just not a very outgoing personality.

Lol! It's amazing how much their personalities vary! My last boy Drogon was soooo chill, even loved car rides! Lily, well, she's named Lily Habanero for a reason xD

Does this look like a healthy beardie

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
cookie event at my library today, quite fun! Made some bracelets for my comrades too, to give them at church in the morning. Got a busy day tomorrow even though I’m off work… i go back on tuesday so atleast I’ll have 2 days off to rewind….then back to hell lol
The head tilt tho! Aaaahhh
