Phoenix worms are awesome.. a little expensive.. especially considering how many Spike eats in a day. I can not get Spike to eat a dead cricket.. or dead anything for that matter. Yesterday she chomped on a dubia.. then shook her head and spit it out.. I am now wondering if maybe it was because of that acid. She came across the same one about 5 minutes later but just stared at it.. she would not touch it because it did not move. I swear the bugs have figured this out because when she comes close they freeze.. and she will look at them.. watch them for a minute or two.. then walk on!
As for having a "small" dubia colony.. I can only imagine that it gets large fast!
Ladyhawk thanks for the link... I think I may have to go out and buy that TODAY!!!! As for the large dubia.. they are about 3 inches.. the males freak me out more than females.. they have wings. Either way if one of those suckers touched me.. I would probably die of a heart attack. As far as I know.. dubia.. of any size.. don't bite at all.

Yeah, she loves them, but I can only get them every once in awhile because of the price. That must make things a little difficult. As for Rouge, she will eat anything but freeze dried crickets. They turn to dust when she bites into them, so I don't blame her. I thought all roaches had wings.
I feed her phoenix worms, small super worms, and canned crickets whenb the stores have them. I'm terrified of them, but I have to deal because I have to feed my baby girl. I wear elbow gloves and use tongs, lol. It kind of funny to watch.
Sorry. I'm sure it would be nice to have help if you hate bugs that much. I can handle pretty much everything I've tried so far: crickets, phoenix worms, roaches (small, mind you), fruit flies. If I were there, I'd help you feed your beardie.
On edit: Grover is hungry. He has started running over to the glass to stare at me.
I have been sick for what seems like forever. First it was a nasty sinus infection for over a week.. this past week has been migraines and nausea. I feel ok today.. so you get new Spike pictures!!!
Both Spike and my daughter fell asleep while watching TV.
Spike crawled out of her sleeping bag and snuggled in my shirt!
Stubby showing off his fat tail.
Stubby's cuter side..
Completely pissed that I woke her up before 11am.
The next three are her climbing up my arm to sleep on my shoulder..
Refusing to eat crickets for breakfast.. I left them in her house from 11am till 3pm when I finally gave in and fed her roaches.
Sexy leg while pouting about crickets...
She sat there.. in that spot.. from 11 till 3.. then she dove face first into the bowl of roaches I finally gave her.
Spike is gorgeous so loved! I can't believe her big tummy. I think she looks way fatter since eating Dubia but I could be wrong. I sure do love love love this girl!!!!!
Shes a stinker.. I gave up on the crickets!! Hopefully I can keep my dubia colony. I am trying to wear my hubby down!!! He hates the roaches.. wont let them in the house.. so I have to try to keep them heated in the garage!! He wants me to feed them off to her and not let them breed.. then go back to crickets!!
What if you tell hubby of all the money the colony will save you in the long run, compared to buying crickets? And now Queen Spike is so spoiled she won't eat them anyway!
You know my dear, that goes both ways! Although you have done a way better job of posting Pics lately. If we get back from the fam's early enough I will do my best to take some pics for you!
Thanksgiving.. plus black friday.. plus having to keep my friends kids while she heads off to Michigan for a family emergency = late Spike pics!! I have quite a few to add.. so here goes!
The new MVB makes her colors so pretty.. but the camera refuses to capture it well..
Spike says.. I am not amused with your picture taking....
Does anyone else's baby keep their little toes up? She often sits with her claws off the ground / rock.. strange girl.
