So I’ve got another update, and it’s not great news.. I’d been taking pics of the wound on Mowgli day by day to see progress. While treating it and alternating between the honey and terbinafine just in case it was yellow fungus. Each day it would look different, sometimes better, sometimes worse, sometimes more yellow, sometimes more grey. The photos I posted earlier seemed more grey at the time. I noticed the area started to spread a bit so I took him back to the vet. They confirmed it was yellow fungus and started him on oral terbinafine, and continue with the topical terbinafine.Hello,
You are very welcome!
That's great his appetite seems to be holding steady right now. During the winter, if they aren't brumating,
they will often times become more sluggish. I guess you can't blame them with colder weather.
I'm glad you found some raw unpasteurized honey to use, I hope that it helps out. It takes some time to
clear up spots on their scales but keep trying!

Originally she recommended voriconazole, and I was worried that would be too harsh for him. She said it is pretty harsh, so we could try terbinafine first since it’s a bit safer but she said typically it works better on female beardies. So….. we’re gonna try it though and if there’s no improvement then we’ll have to switch to the other stuff.
I’m a bit worried about sanitizing everything and keeping it from spreading, but I won’t give up.
She recommended buying F10 veterinary disinfectant which also kills fungus, and is safer than diluted bleach. She said I could disinfect his logs with it.
Just sharing in case anyone else is going through this too. His tank has tons of decor in it so I have to figure out a new set up that’s easier to disinfect.
Also, I asked if the yellow fungus had anything to do with that sperm plug removal fiasco, or due to an injury. She said no, that he was most likely exposed to it as a baby from the breeder, and that it was dormant inside him until now. So.. I’m sure there’s truth to that, but I think that vet did injure him as well. So it’s just odd how this came together. Perhaps the injury triggered this in some way, or the skin was too soft and susceptible somehow. Or it was there all along and just became exposed when he removed the skin. I have no idea.
But anyways thanks everyone for your help and support, Will update as things go along. Hopefully I can keep him around and keep this yellow fungus at bay. I’m hopeful since it’s still a small patch.
