Last time Ridley shed, there was a discolored patch on the tip of his nose. I didn't know if it was retained shed, or what, but it was just a little funny looking. It didn't bother him or look overly odd, so I just left it. This was about two weeks ago. Yesterday in his bath he scratched his nose and the discolored patch...fell off. o.o Like it was a scab or something? The issue is, under it, there are no scales, only pink skin. The entire discolored area came off in one piece, and the skin looks fine and healthy, as does the edge where it meats the healthy scales. It is just a tiny area, right on the tip of his upper lip.
Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? I don't think he could have hurt himself, but he does bash his nose off things... But if it was a wound that scabbed, wouldn't the scales get replaced? I'm a bit concerned.
She could have banged her nose on something which could have scabbed over a little & then healed only to have it fall off.
Is it the chin/lip cap that could have fallen off?
Does it look infected, or no?
It doesn't look infected at all. The skin is nice and pink, smooth, with clean edges. The bottom lip isn't affected at all. It did get a little red earlier today when I had him out in the sun, but it's back to pink. Do you think the scales will come back or that there is anything I should worry about? Here are a few pictures. Any shininess on his skin/scales is residue from the neosporin I had on there.
i've seen some reptiles at pet shops that rub their noses raw trying to find a way out of their enclosures. They just rub up against the glass until they have raw noses.
