Solarmeter 6.5

I’m curious if anyone uses a solarmeter/radiometer 6.5? Are they worth the purchase, as they are fairly expensive?

I’ve been reading more about these and I’m curious if they do help you save money in the long term as you wouldn’t be changing UV lamps unnecessarily if they still produce ideal UV indexes. It also sounds like a good idea to know exactly what the UV index is.

Currently I change the UV lamps every 6 - 12 months but I’ve seen people say they’ve not had to change them for 24+ months because of this!

I am questioning if I should get one. My beardies have never had issues though with the timescale i change the lamps. I trust that Arcadia lamps do their jobs and produce the right UV.

What are your thoughts?

I run 4 to 5 Arcadia bulbs. 1 round nearly pays for the meter.
Not only does it save from replacing good bulbs, it lets you dail in the amount of uv your beardies are setting in. In my opinion if you can afford it, it is very much worth the money.
After getting mine I realized my guys were in uv that was much to strong. I adjusted immediately and they all seem much happier now. Much more active as well.

It sounds like they have a lot of good uses, so I may purchase one soon! I have 2 beardies, so it’d likely save me a lot of money over time as I won’t be changing out the lamps unnecessarily.

I’d like to keep tabs on what their UV is also like, as it’s important. I could imagine many people buy lamps that could have possible manufacturing errors, causing it to produce less UV output than usual (or diminishes faster than 6 to 12 months) and won’t particularly know about it if it’s a brand new lamp. I think that’s also something I should consider.
