Hi everyone. I just got a 3 month old Double Het bearded dragon from The North East Reptile Show in White Plans NY. I have had him for a about 3 days now. My issue is, whenever I go into his enclosure to pick him up or pet him, he puffs up and opens his mouth and lunges at my hand. How can I make his transition into his new home more comfortable for him.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
It may just take time. It sounds like he might still be a bit scared by his new surroundings. Since he is active defensively I wouldn't approach him for now aside from cleaning and feeding. You could try offering him a treat by hand. Maybe a black soldier fly larva or some silk worms. That may help to build some trust. Spend some time near the enclosure and speak to him in a gentile voice. That may help him learn you aren't a predator.
