Hi,
Bibbles has had these small black spots crop up along his back. He has had one for a long time but the others are new. He has had a spot of stuck shed that has rebuilt over and over in the same place for three years now which is on his lower back. He also has a dark and orange patch on his beard which is new. He hasn’t shed fully in over a year now so thinking it could be related to this?

Not sure how to attach a photo…

Some beardies get those little black spots..I guess the closest thing you can call them would be freckles? Or moles? Not unusual unless you would see one change in size or appearance. They do pop up from time to time, esp as a beardie ages. Is your beardie older? The dark spot under the ear and the shed spot that keeps rebuilding, a more experienced keeper may know more about those than I do

The little black spots are common, the patch under the ear looks a little concerning to me though. Both of the others that @Sue E. flagged may be anle to give you more insight.

The black spots are common, they can be completely benign but once in a while it's melanoma. So if you see too many of them popping up then have an experienced reptile vet look at him + maybe take a small biopsy. You can Google bearded dragon melanoma to read more on it. The other things look fine, keep an ee on the patch under his ear, it's probably nothing but you can get a small tube of silver sulfadiazene cream and dab it on there.

I have some reptile Tamodine would that work? He doesn’t appear to be in pain or irritated by anything. Still eats fine and moves the normal amount for him. How many black spots would be classed as too many?

The silver cream would be better , it's an ointment that can help with the problematic shed if there's anything else developing. The Tamodine is more of an antiseptic for small wounds.

As far as how many black dots to be concerned about it's not really a number, it's just taking precaution if you wish to see a vet in the case of them popping up more + more.

Hi,
Thank you so much for your advice. Is there a specific type or brand of ointment i need to be getting?

No, that sounds like it has some insect repellent and other stuff. Look for silver sulfadiazene cream, found in any drug store or online is fine.
BTW, can you post pics of the areas you are concerned about ? I read what you wrote but don't really see what it is.

Hello,

Silver gel or cream is terrific & usually works pretty
well for most skin issues.
The dark spots that a lot of us call freckles or just
pigmentation spots are usually no big deal. Just keep an eye on them to be sure that they don't change too much.
