Looking at what the best material would be for sliding from doors. For the track (metal or plastic) and the door itself( Glass or plexiglass ) for a 3 ft long 18 inch high tank. Not something I've dealt with before so having issues figuring out what to get and where to get it. Help would be appreciated! Also side question, where can you buy melamine paint??? I wanna touch up the cut edges on my tank I'm building
In the long run using metal runners and glass doors is probably better. The glass doors won't scratch as easily. They'll cost more and may need a specialist to cut to size though. You may want to prime the melamine with a primer that is for laminates but I'd double check with a paint shop on that. A place like Sherwin Williams may be able to help you out with better advice on that front.
That I'm not sure of. The place that cuts the glass may give good advice on that. It may help if it's rounded or beveled but I don't know for sure. My tank has glass doors that swing out and the glass edges are beveled. I'm not sure if that's to keep it from getting nicked as easily or if it's for safety.
I use plastic runners and glass doors. A glass shop should be able to put a rounded edge (called a pencil edge) that makes the glass safer to handle. Over the years my tracks have work but I don't have anything between the plastic and the glass.
