Sleepy/Lethargic

Hi,
I recently posted another thread as my beardie had a strange poop and my beardie was prescribed Baytril (for some clear mucus at the back of his mouth) and had some tartar on his teeth so had an anti-inflammatory called Meloxicam. The dosage was as directed.

He finished the two-week course of medication 1 week ago, and hasn't really changed much. The reason I brought him into the vet was not eating and odd poops. He did some poops when on the antibiotics and they looked better but 1 week after still hasn't eaten much, I hand-feed some pumpkin and he had couple of mealworms, but wouldn't eat any woodies/crickets I tried to feed. I was also worried about dehydration as he not eating his salad still, so I give him baths.

Temps are good (in C, I am in Australia) -
Cold side: 27ish
Hot side 32-34 ish
Basking: 39-42
Humidity ranges between 30-40%

UVB: Reptile one 12%

He won't move, stays in the same spot and I worry so sometimes push him out to the light and he goes and basks.

This is his tank when I made it, he hides in the bottom left under the stairs. On the right side there is actually a log that sits under the basking and gets at 39-42 ish basking temp. (not in pic)

Looking for some help! Should I just leave him and see what he does? Its summer here so not brumation.

First is that a colored bulb by the basking bulb? If so get rid of it please-- colored bulbs cause long term eye damage and disturb sleep -- next I would swap out the Reptile One UVB bulb for a Arcadia 12% 24 watt bulb for a 24" fixture or a Reptisun 10.0 T 5 - I cant see the whole fixture so if its the length of the tank he may be hiding from that UVB -- what is the surface basking temp under the bulb? It looks closer than 6"I would put some more decor pieces for the dragon to sit on besides the shelf --

Thanks! Yes, the coloured bulb is for night & the UVB goes across the whole tank. Do you think my beardie is hiding from the UVB?

It’s 3ft 39W T5 12%

the colored bulb please get rid of it- what is the distance from the uvb to basking area? The length of the uvb is a little long as well- it's possible that could be it as well but get rid of the colored bulb first- he needs to be able to sit in his tank w/ out hiding from the uvb-

I am not home at the moment, however around 20-25cm probably. I will confirm that with you. Yes, I will get new UVB, however I did just replace the reptile one bulb.

I would change it out - it's a better quality bulb -- distance for a T5 12-15 inches- it could be too strong that close

When I got home I measured, UVB is 30cm away from the basking log and the sides and other stuff in the tank - so not too close as I originally mentioned. As you can see, he camps out in the bottom left corner. I removed the substrate a month ago after seeing he was being different and wanted to remove anything that could contribute to it. He has also been in pre shed for 2-months, going somewhat dull, which he has not done before. I also take in out in natural sunlight for 15min 3 times a week.

So the distance from the UVB to the log is good -- what about the basking light? Is he basking under the light? I would drop your surface basking temps down to 95-100 F -- and the bulb is what brand? It looks like it has a yellowish hue to it--is he drinking water out of the bath?

He does not drink water out of the bath and the light is a basking it does have a warm white hue to it. It's a 150w basking bulb.

Would you bring down the basking to 100F? Thats 37C

Try a lower temp see what kind of response you get from him --

Hello,

As Karrie suggested, the Arcadia D3 12% or 14% long tube bulb, namely the T5 would be a better
choice than the Reptile One brand. I haven't used the Reptile One brand personally but I don't
think the quality is nearly as good as the Arcadia brand. He might be trying to avoid that light, if it
has inconsistent UVB wavelength perhaps.
Since he was on medication recently, did you give probiotics for him to help with appetite?

Yes, he has been on a probiotic Vetafarm Synbiotic 180-S Animal Probiotic Supplement 150g

I will however be going to the store to get the UVB - is zoomed okay or Arcadia the one?

Thanks

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
cookie event at my library today, quite fun! Made some bracelets for my comrades too, to give them at church in the morning. Got a busy day tomorrow even though I’m off work… i go back on tuesday so atleast I’ll have 2 days off to rewind….then back to hell lol
