Spyro is about six months old and is approximately 11 inches long. He was the brightest and biggest beardie in the lot, he even approached me as I walked up to his tank. I've noticed that when he starts to shed he becomes more skittish and jumpy when I come into the room. He even runs away as I go to pick him up. When I lay on my bed he literally sprints away and towards the edge of the bed which freaks me out. He also hides in his terrarium. Normally he doesn't act this way, I noticed it's only when he starts to shed that he behaves differently. Is this normal for a beardie to get skittish when shedding? Anyone else experience this?
All bearded dragons are like this. They become more easily agitated when sheed and all 6 of my bearded dragons are skittish while shedding. Its best not to handle them while they shed
In addition to Alpha's response, it depends on the individual dragon. My oldest gets grumpy during sheds, but not fearful or anything. My youngest seems un-phased. I handle both my dragons while they are shedding and neither show signs of distress or annoyance. They also both continue to bask and not run and hide while in the enclosure
He is definitely a cautious little guy. He is super attentive and would probably do quite well if he were living in his natural habitat. Thanks for letting me know just how different their personalities can be.
