So I was at the pet store getting some waxworm treats for my baby when I came across an extremely skinny beardie but he was beautiful. I called one of the people over and asked about it (it was half the size of the others and legs like toothpicks) I asked the guy if he was sick and he was like no he just doesnt eat as much as the others...clearly. they had a dish full of 1in long mealworms in there for beardies who were at the most 6 in long. I commented on how they really shouldnt be eating the mealworms and he told me I didnt know what I was talking about or how to care for my own beardie...which I had under my shirt at the time..lol. I feel so bad for this little guy and have decided if he is still there on sunday I'm gonna get him...i want to be prepared though...any suggestions to help me and the little guy out...I have a pic of him i'll try and upload it later...
I would go ahead and get some of the small stage one chicken or turkey baby food and maybe some mixed veggie baby
food. If he is not eating his food on his own you can syringe/dropper feed him these. mix them with a little water and
sprinkle his vitamins and calcium on them so you can make sure he is getting that stuff. Make sure your lights and all
are already set up since most of the petstores do not have the proper lights on them so he can warm up and get some
good uvb light.
Post lots of PIX.
Definately give him a bath and hydrate him. Maybe even a little pedialyte mixed in the water to soak in.
He is cute.
Let us know if you get him.
Okay so I've cleaned the old cage and have the lights set up and checking temps...i ran out off crickets so im going to get some and if he's there...he's mine I just cant stand the thought of him being there like that
So here he(she) is...a whopping(not) 3 grams and 5 inches...ive got my work cut out for me but he is a cutie!
I gave him a bath got .01cc of chicken stage 1 babyfood into him and now he is basking, sort of, not movin too much...temps are at 100 and he's just on paper towels for now....
Here are some pics
my skinny babyyy
and one in his new homeee...
and btw thats an extra small log hut thingy (whatever its called)
any advice/tips will be extremely appreciated i just want to give this little one a fight chance...I've also decided to name him Tinny.
keep trying to get some food in him. Is he eating anything else? Keep up the baths.
Maybe some repti-aid to help get some nurishment in him. Did you mix in calcium or
vitamins?
Several times a day trying to feed worked with us with Ash and Gobi. It is slow go just keep at it.
yeah i havent put any crix in there cause he wont even hold his head up much...After i posted i went back upstairs and he at 1cc and i figured that'd be enough for the night so im gonna let him digest in the quiet for a while before i turned his light off and i mixed a small amount of calcium in there he justs so small idk how much to give him and dont want to over do it. I have calcium carbonate, calcium with D3 and liquid calcium so idk what to use or what would be best i just used the CaCo3(please exuse this...im a chem major and minor in renewable energy lol) i'll try the crickets tomorrow morning and put some veggies in...
Update for this morning I got a poop!!!! but the urate was almost nonexistant and yellow so bath time here we home to get some more fluids in him i got some pedialyte to so hopefully that will pick him up a bit. He hasnt takin and food or crix this morning but he is a lot more active already. We'll see how the day goes...
aw bless him he is so cute and well done you for rescuing him! I tried to fatten my baby up a bit coz he was looking on the small side. I feed him the occasional wax moth larvae which has helped him put on weight- they are nice and soft and have a high fat content and he LOVES them.
Butterworms and Silkworms are good to fatten beardies up too: however only feed occasionally. Hope all turns out well
thanks...he still hasnt eating anything this morning he may be used to eating at night? idk but he's basking and seems generally happy just hanging out I have a wedding to go to today so he'll have plenty of time to hang out without any disturbance...
so no crix today but some (not alot) of baby food and a good bath with what im gonna call 1 and a half poops lol one was alright the other almost non-existant lol so far so good though he's staring at me right now so im gonna try and get more in him
He is skinny! Kudos to you for giving him a great home. I've used squash baby food to bring babies back to health. Too much protien too quickly isn't always a good thing. I'd alternate them. It's also good for color recognition later on. My girl loves anything orange now. The crickets moving so fast might intimidate him. Try putting them in the fridge for a few minutes, it'll slow them down a bit. Make sure he is getting calcium once a day 5 days a week and vitamins 2x a week. A daily bath, and drpping water on his nose to lick off once or twice a day too would help. Babies dehydrate easily, look at his eyes. If they appear to be sunken in a bit he needs water. Consistency and Patience are key. Snuggles are also highly recommended. What is your set-up like? What bulbs do you have? What brand UV? Coil or tube? Etc.... Good luck with your little one. I'm sure some with much more experience than I have will weigh in soon. If not we'll hunt them down
Well he's my second one so I got the basking bulb and the flouresent tube reptisun 10.0 the store was feeding him mealworms so i order some reptiworms for him maybe he'll like those better they'll be here tuesday but for now he's getting a mixed like chicken and veggie babyfood and i must say that that stuff smells soooo baddd...I have a bad gag reflex to its killin me lol but i'll deal with it...its gettin to be hard dealin with him and my 15 month old going into brumation lol
