Sick or Pre Shed

I need some advice again from people who know more than me.

My beardie last few days has not wanted to eat and sleeping a lot. She has no interest in worms or blueberries which she normally goes for. I have had her lick a bit of crit care or baby foods to get something in her. She was on a med for something found in her stool about a week and a half ago. Vet didn’t really tell me what they found but she was on meds for 3 days and then takes another 3 doses in 2 weeks. She was off for about a week now she is just wanting to lay around and not eat at all. She will hold herself up a little here and there but not for too long.

I’m just wondering if this is a pre shed thing, she never acted like this with her other sheds. Or is she sick to where I need to maybe get her looked at again.

Her lights and everything is the same good temps and all that. If we go outside it’s in the 90s and she lays around like this also. Like she’s tired or sick. Just need some advice please

I also should add I’ve been fighting a cold or something for the past week or so. Not sure if that can affect her.

Thank you

Meds will make them lose their appetite -- she needs to stay hydrated while on this meds -- what is she on? Do you have the parasite test? And how was the sample taken? Enema?

I don’t have the test. The vet just called and told me they found something in the stool and that was all they said. They never got specific. No enema, she went to the potty while we were there for a checkup.

They put her on strongid. She took 3 doses starting on 6/26. It was one dose a day. Then she repeats in 3 weeks. She seemed to be doing fine but it’s been the last 4-5 days she lost her appetite and yesterday she started wanting to just lay around. Up until she lost her appetite she was eating super worms a few every 3 days and she was getting a few blueberries. Other days I’d mix in greens into a slurry or crit care. Plus I’d offer her water daily through a syringe and sometimes mix it with tart cherry juice. She seemed to drink as much as normal. She’s been stubborn with her greens and I’ve been trying to get her to eat them but she doesn’t want them like always. That’s why I’ve been doing the crit care and slurries.

Her temps are 98-104 under the light. Cool side is in mid 80s. UVB is a T5 Ho from reptisun. she’s on supers because her vet want a her to put on some weight where she lost a good bit before she had to have follicles removed. also her calcium has been high for over a year so she’s limited to lower calcium foods until it comes down some. A previous vet kept saying her issues was from a lack of calcium and kept giving her shots after shots. Then the specialist I went to said her calcium was dangerously high at the time.

Do you have those test results for the calcium? If not call the vets office and have them emailed to you -- one from both of the vets you took her too --- post them I want Tracie our vet tech mod on the forum to look at them -- please get her off the super worms and start feeding her a regular staple insect super worms are treat worms -- a good balanced diet of salads and insects will put weight back on her --- feed her some horn worms for treats or butter worms -- flagging Tracie

I’m trying to get them. I left messages just waiting to hear back.

I do have the tests from august when we went. I don’t have the ones from last time though. they never showed me them. Soon as someone gets back to me I’ll add them. Here are the ones from august though.

Hello,

How is your girl doing tonight? Strongid is usually a
mild drug. Any luck on getting a copy of your new blood test results so we can compare them?
Repeated shots of calcium can cause renal or heart failure so definitely no more calcium shots.
Did they mention spaying her? Did she absorb her follicles then or has she had any issues from the follicles?
She may be developing follicles again, possibly.
You mentioned that you use the Reptisun 10 T5 tube bulb, which is a great bulb. How is it placed, is it on top of or underneath of the screen top?
If she has had hypercalcemia for extended periods of time, that can cause symptoms of metabolic bone disease. Meaning, that can cause overcompensation of the body to store calcium in strange places or cause organ calcification.
Can she support her body weight, climb & walk normally?

Tracie

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
cookie event at my library today, quite fun! Made some bracelets for my comrades too, to give them at church in the morning. Got a busy day tomorrow even though I’m off work… i go back on tuesday so atleast I’ll have 2 days off to rewind….then back to hell lol
The head tilt tho! Aaaahhh
