I have a seriously sick boy. He has been having problems for a month or so now. It started about a month ago, he threw up once. It was just a little ball of undigested food, and I assumed he just ate too fast, or got cold.
Fast forward to about two weeks ago. He lost a LOT of weight in that time, and has stopped eating his salad. He has also been incredibly angry, uncomfortable. Growling at me and hissing all the time. I know he is uncomfortable. And finally, today, he threw up again.
We have been force feeding him basically, liquefied greens with a bit of calcium and vitamins. And not much. So all he threw up was that. He had crickets a few days ago, but only ate a fraction of what he typically eats. So we are worried to give him more.
I was in a wedding last weekend so I had to hold off, and then the vet was on vacation. His appointment is Tuesday.
I am very worried he wont make it that long. He threw up and just stopped moving for a little while, before returning to hissing.
I am wondering, a few things. First of all, does anyone know what may be wrong?
Second, does anyone know of anything to help him calm down? He is so angry and I am wondering if there are any ways of stopping some of his symptoms for a little while, he needs some relief.
And third. I also own a corn snake, two ball pythons, a leopard gecko, a fire skink, and a cat. Can whatever he has spread? Are there any ways to prevent this completely?
Hi there....I'm so sorry that he[ and you ] are going through this. I'm sure it's nothing your other pets can catch. It sounds very serious, it could be cancer or advanced liver disease....his hissing means he's in pain + frightened. Try to call your vet + tell them it's an emergency. I hope that I'm wrong on my guesses as to his problem....only other things that come to mind is if he ate something off the floor that is blocking him. Has he been pooing at all ? To try to keep him calm, cover his tank part way and move slowly when you approach.
He has been pooping, I forgot to add this! He has had these little yellow crystals in his urate. They could be hurting him. I c ouldnt find any info on these.
Yellowish color in the urate would indicate a certain level of dehydration and not cause any real pain. By the way,can you post a picture of him to show his condition ?
The urate itself is white, it just has little yellow crystals in it. They feel like sand (yeah I touched it... haha) I will get pictures of him uploaded when I get home, phone is not good for this x.x
Oh my, I am so sorry that he went so quickly. That is terrible. I know how devastating it is to lose one.
The only way to determine the cause would be an autopsy.
My sincere condolences.
