I know, but you need to make sure your dragon(s) have the supplies they need to live a good life. If you can't buy online, what else can you do? They need bugs & they need lights, so as I said, if there's a reason you can't buy online, there's really no choice. Also there are usually only so many pet stores that handle stuff for reptiles in any given area. I think the only thing that can be done is to let the staff know that dragons need certain things to survive, but I don't know if they care, corporations are there to make $, not spend it on good care. I tried to change the care of dragons in another pet shop that my hubby worked in as a reptile keeper, he was great, but they decided he cost them too much $ in crickets (even though I made the salads for the beardie babies for free), so they laid him off. What could you do, at least we healed the ones that got bitten & I have my beautiful Rubio (who's now 4 years old) from that shop. So it wasn't a complete loss. We saved alot of their babies while he worked there. And just to show that it's possible to rescue damaged dragons & bring them back to good health, here's a pic of Rubio smiling:
He had lost most of his digits on his right front & back paws, he was 24g at 3 mo old & was in pain, dark, at the bottom of the tank. I brought him home, healed him up & he just grew & grew & grew. He's now huge at 22" long (with a tail nip) and 800g. So sometimes good things come from bad pet shops.
Rubio is so adorable! You're right, something great did some out of your experience. And yeah, I wasn't saying I don't buy supplies from the stores, or course I have to sometimes, I just feel a little guilty knowing that off all the money they're bringing in they can't improve the treatment of their animals. When I was first setting up Norbert's viv, and was looking for a basking platform higher than the one I had, I had a Petsmart employee ask me why I would need a higher basking spot when juveniles only need around 90 degrees. :| Then she told me how she has 4 beardies, under ReptiGlo coil lights, and how she's never had any problems. (This was AFTER she told me one of her dragons has MBD... ) All I have to say is thank goodness for this forum! This was my main resource in researching before (and asking tons of questions after lol) I got my baby.

around here petsmart seems to be better than the petcos... I got a baby beardie a couple of weeks ago from a petsmart (awesome color...) I was surprised they had such nice looking ones.. but they were all tiny. I got my baby i think almost 2 weeks ago exactly and just weighed it today... 9 grams.. I looked at the sizing chart on beautifuldragons.com and guesstimate that my baby is about 4 weeks old... so was barely 2 weeks old when I bought it. This particular petsmart at least had fresh veggies out for the beardies and lots of space for them to climb. None of them were too skinny.. which at least is good.
What if we all work together to get FOX or CNN to do a story on ill treated pets in pet store chains? Especially the reptiles since they seem the most overlooked. Can't you e-mail or something? I think if we all did it we might get somewhere.
Not petsmart but I went to PetCo the other day and of course took a look at their dragons. Usually the tanks are really clean and the animals otherwise look very alert and healthy but I got quite the surprise this time.
It was filthy and the baby in front there was very skittish and ran away when I approached. There are two other babies hiding by that black thing and their enclosure was very dirty.

Maybe we could start up a blog or something and she all who would do it. If we get enough people, we could see if anyone would take it. And also stories on abused dragons! These are things people need to know!
We could make a blog on here, to spread the word to people on this site, make another blog (probably blogger) and maybe use e-mail. If we can ask everyone interested in this to e-mail anyone they know who also might help end this, who knows how many people we can get.
If we do the blog, what should it be named?
I also know my way around blogger, so that shouldn't be an issue.
