hey all,
so emmi has been shedding for the last week or so, and I've been bathing her extra because she's having issues getting the shed off her feet. well I was checking her feet today and she has a red sore on each front foot, and I guessing it's from ripping the the skin. is there something I can put on the sores to help them heal? I'd rather not go to the vet again as I just dropped $200 on a visit 2 months ago, and money is kinda tight right now. of course if there's nothing I can get over the counter for her I'll go to the vet but I'm trying to avoid it if it's at all possible. any help is appreciated.
Hi Ashe....so, how often were you bathing her, and did you try to scrub it at all ? That can damage the skin. I know that uneven sheds can make us anxious, but they generally come off when they are ready. For the sore spots, just use some antibiotic cream. Raw honey works well for wounds, too [ it MUST be unpasteurized to act as an antibacterial/antibiotic ] and dilute with a tiny bit of warm water, apply with a Q-tip. The sores should heal up O.K. By the way, where are the sores, on top or bottom of her feet and can you post pics ?
Raw unpasteurized honey is pretty awesome. I'd go with that if possible. Especially since the sores are on your little lady's front feet, which theoretically she could lick if she wanted. (I'm sure antibiotic cream/ointment tastes awful and a dragon wouldn't be interested in eating it, but you never know lol! )
I'm not sure if grocery stores carry raw honey, but a health food store definitely should. We get ours at Whole Foods.
Good luck! I hope those pesky sores heal up soon, for you and Emmi's sake <3

thanks for the help guys. I bathed her every other day when I noticed her starting to shed; but her baths are short (like 5 min) because she thrashes and freaks out in the water and tried desperately to get away. I didn't scrub her feet at all, so I'm thinking she caught it while thrashing and pulled some off causing the two sores. there's one on the bottom of each front foot. I'll try to post pics this weekend, but I'm gonna start the raw honey treatment right away so she doesn't get an infection.
