Ive had my guy since january, hes 16 inches, got him from a local pet shop. He shed his legs last month and now he is going thru his first full shed with me right now. I noticed today that a good portion of his tail looked odd, color wise so i looked at him more closely and i believe he has several skins still left on a large part of his tail. it worries me a bit obviouslly and was wondering besides giving him baths everyday, which im already doing, if there is any other good way to get several incomplete sheds off his tail, hes such a beautiful guy dont want him to lose his tail. im quite sure others have gone thru something like this, any opinions would be great, thanks
It sounds as though he has a bit of retained shed on his tail. Along with bathing him frequently, you can use a soft bristled toothbrush to gently rub on the unshed areas. You can also put some 100% aloe vera or 100% cocoa butter on the area as well to help soften and loosen the stubborn shed. Do not allow your beardie to bask with either of these ointments on his tail.
You are right to be concerned about the unshed area and his tail. A retained shed, if not taken care of, can result in constriction of blood flow to the tail, which could become serious.
Try the things I suggested and let us know if it helps.
