So, I got my beardie some flax seed for a dig box since it's safe for them to eat in case they tasted it and ate a bit and so she could dig. However... She's eating it. Like not just a few seeds where it seems like she just ate a couple while licking things; when I bathed her, her poo was literally just flax seeds. She won't even eat her actual food because she's full on flax seed. This has happened twice in the past 3 days.
So, does anyone knows why she's eating it?? And while we're at it- any ideas for new dig box substrate?
That can't be too good for her overall. Is she digging to lay eggs or just to dig? For a lay box it's usually recommended to use a combination of damp play sand and organic topsoil so it's a consistency that will hold a tunnel. If it's just for fun I'd try scraps of fleece. They're nice and soft and easy to clean up if they get dirty - just throw them in the wash.
I'm pretty sure it's not for eggs, I think she just likes eating it. I haven't even seen her dig in it, I only know she's eating it since I see it when she goes to the bathroom. She doesn't seem too concerned about making a place for eggs though, and she's no fatter than normal nor did I feel any eggs these last few days when I handled her. The dig box was just to dig, not for a lay box. I'll try the fleece though, thanks! At least she won't eat that
