So Gary has VERY sharp nails... My hands and arms are pretty much covered in scratches that left scabs, lol. Savage little beardie! He isn't even trying to scratch, it's just from him climbing/walking on me. I know a lot of people trim their beardies nails. The problem is that the majority of Gary's nail has the quick/vein in it. He's 15 inches long but only a juvie still. I don't think it would be possible for me to trip them without nicking that vein. They're not really long at all, just very sharp. I've also heard stories about beardies spraining their legs from their nails getting caught on things
Do any of you have any advice on how to dull them a bit without using clippers? He's got such little fragile hands still, he has a lot of growing to do. I just don't want him to get hurt no matter what, I can live with the scratches if I have to.
If he really tolerates you handling him, grab a fine emery board and just work it nail by nail. You know the boards that have the "buff" or "polish" surfaces. They will just slowly get them down without grinding too hard. I find that mine almost likes the vibration in his toes cause he just closes his eyes! lol.
Also maybe lining his viv with slate or some other stone will help grind down in just normal movement throughout his enclosure.
