Hi im helping a friend with a rescued dragon. The dragon has suffered bad internally from lack of uv and nutrients but is on the mend now after vet visits they said there was a lot of internal lung scarring and bone problems. You can clearly hear from breathing That it genuinly has difficulty breathing but after a culture nothing showed and vet said its severe tissue damage.
Anyway they advised michael to buy liquid serrapeptase but werent clear on the dosage and to me anyway the serrapeptase they gave him is potent
20ml phial has 320,000iu serrapeptase
Dosage?? Dosage has to be small id imagine? Oh it also has 1000 d-ribose
I can try to help out here. The liquid is already formulated, did it come from a pharmacy?
What is the strength/mgs per ml on the bottle say? What is the dragon's weight in grams?
Serrapeptase is a little different as it is measured/formulated in IU's.
Since I sell it, I figured my doses from IU's converted to mgs.

Hi tracie yes i assume its from a pharmacy it seems to be branded 'wellbeing' im in the uk and not much is readily available unless you get it from vets you cant even buy baytril over here. This kind of thing id imagine the vet sourced specially as he waited 10 days for it
That is a good solution then.
The D-ribose is simply added to help with arthritis but it is a form of carbohydrate that is formed by way of the Krebs cycle in the ATP production. It can help with energy levels, too.
I normally dose dragons at 15mg/kg of body weight, but could probably dose higher. It is just a conservative dose & they seem to do well on that. I may design a stronger formula also though.
Did the vet have a particular dose in mind? If not, I can help you dose your dragon for his weight at the 15mg/kg if you would like, just let me know.
This solution as is, the strength is set at 160mg/ml. If you wanted to dose him at 15mg/kg, at that strength you can give him/her .0375 rounded to .04ml for ease of dosing.
I hope he is doing better. Have you seen any improvements?
Thanks tracie, the vet stated 15mg/kg up to 25mg/kg but never actually gave what that dosage would be so thanks for working that out for me at 0.04ml
He is slighlty better in the sense that now under the correct lighting and getting supplemented with liquid calcium he is far more alert than he was when my friend got him ive got a nebuliser which helps his breathing. Hopefully once serrapeptase starts to work things will improve more thanks very much for your help
Ok, great, so the 15mg/kg will be perfectly fine for him then.
You are welcome, I am glad I could help out with that for you.
Hopefully the nebulizer will really help him out a lot! They are usually quite effective.
It does sound like he is doing somewhat better & is more alert, too.
Definitely keep us posted on him! I hope he continues to improve.
Hi sorry my orignal reply wasnt accurate my Dragon passsed away the other morning at the vets
The dragon on serrapeptase did actually do quite well and made a good recovery and is now with a trusted keeper
I was that shocked and confused when i replied the other morning because my own wee guy died hope your we man is doing well i only noticed my reply mistake when tracie responded
Hi Tracie it was my Dragon that died the one that made full recovery from liver disease not the rescue dragon serrapeptase recovered well and is now with a good keeper. we have no idea what was wrong with him he had all the symptoms of a typical RI only he never hid always ate and looked really healthy had loads of cultures done and they bever found anything despite the clear croaking noise. All bloods were great. I had planned to put him in the vets this week as nebulising with asthma meds were only masking the problem.
A week last wednesday i woke up at 1am to him really struggling and he choked to death i did however manage to revive the poor we guy and he got up following day and basked as normal it was that day i drove 100miles to vet and explained what happened Michael the vet is a reptile soecialist and he hasnt seen a case like it before Nacho was with vet for 6 days everyday showing great improvment on nebulising steroids to make him strong enough for op to be more invasive. On tuesday morning we got a call saying he was good and was basking away 3 hours later he was found slumpt over rock vet revived him but ge never came out of a coma and stopped breathing on his own.
Vet was quite upset and said that its the strangest case he has had as he was a big strong dragon compared to any case he had seen before where normally if the are ill dramatic weightloss and stop natural behaviours that never happened with nacho the day of his death he was basking which i can only assume meant he was content and happy. Ive decided not to get a post mortem done as im Devasted as it is and the fact that all tests came back clear when he was with me makes it a very high posibility of coming back Inconclusive
Its quite unbelievable that he was basking watching everyone in the vets like he always did very much a character vet stayed with him all night on ventilator hoping he would wake up and he did show signs of hope but he stopped breathing altogether
RIP Nacho take care buddy x
Thanks for all the help tracie, not sure i could ever get another one as the circumstances sorrounding nacho just really hurt i thought id saved him that night
