So Charlie has a 4ft x 2ft x 2ft viv, is now about 8 months old. I have been using slate tiles (originally destined for a kitchen floor) instead of any substrate in the viv. Trouble is, even though I went to great lengths to get the slates fitting very well the smaller of the crickets are still able to migrate down the cracks between slates. When I lift the slates for cleaning I often find a good number of crickets under them. More annoyingly they come out at night and I have read that BD's find this quite stressful. With the furniture and other stuff some also escape his feeding and some get big enough to chirp at night.
So I'm now convinced to use a separate feeding tank. What do people use - what size should it be and how long shoudl i leave him there?
I use a separate feeding tub for my Charlie most of the time. It should be big enough for him to turn around in comfortably and walk around, and high enough that the crickets can't jump out. I usually leave him in for 10 minutes or so. If there is only one or two left after that time, I'll either hand feed them to him or let them stay in there until the next feeding and give them a bit of food.
