Separate enclosures but agitated

Hi! I have two bearded dragons, separate enclosures, Nessie and Pogo. Pogo is new, he’s a male. Nessie was first, she’s a female. Nessie has been SO calm and friendly, like a breathing pet rock😂. I found Pogo from a lady needing to find him a good home. I took him in and got him set up, and made sure both beardies couldn’t see each other. It must be smell, because Pogos beard went black and at least once a day he’ll go crazy trying to go in the direction of Nessies enclosure. Nessie will also try and “get to” Pogos enclosure, and her beard goes black (something that’s never happened before). The lady I got him from said if I had any issues, I could bring him back (they really loved him, just wanted to find a good home for him due to some family stuff I think) and I don’t want to, but I’ve been considering it for both beardies sake. Anyone who’s kept multiple in the past (male and female), have you experienced this behavior and did it fade out over time or get worse? Thank you and sorry for the long post!

Make sure there isn't a mirror or something they can both see.
I had a similar issue once when my guys were outside, turned out they could see each others reflection in the sliding glass door.

Yes, Rocky spots Ruby via reflections in glasses, mirrors and the fireplace. They are very nosey and don't miss a thing.

Could they smell each other? They’ve “seen” each other briefly through enclosures but never interacted lol. I’ve moved their enclosures to where they can’t see each other but they still both head bob

They can probably smell each other and hear each other also.
Are you 100% sure both aren’t males? I can post a pic on sexing them if you want it.
I'd give them a couple days and see if they settle down. If not, I'd separate them a bit further apart. I've kept 2 males just a few feet apart, after they got used to it as long as I didn't ket them see each other, they chilled out.

I'll post the pic just because 🙂
What ever light you use be careful to not burn them, even the L.E D.'s get pretty hot.

They've been in large rooms, at least a minimum of 10 feet from each other. I bet they have keen smelling but I have two males, they are very territorial. In fairness, they watch "their window" so it probably doesn't help the situation .

I had them in a smaller room together and outside of their enclosures. Whomever I'm holding is fine, the other bobs and loses his mind. I'll find the video for you.
However, on a different day they...they ignore one another.

@xp29 has a male and female who I'm sure smell each other but they also cuddle with one another. It's the cutest moment ever.

Remember, beardies scratch and move around so they may hear each other. Think about their reactions when hearing bugs. They don't miss a thing 😂

a poem by AHBD (THANK YOU SO MUCH! I LOVE IT!)

Sir Henry the dragon
Looking for his dragon girl
Ventures out in to the wide world
His hopes are up but as you can see
There is no dragon girl for Sir Henry
A light bulb goes off and he takes mom aside
Could you perchance get me a mail order bride ?
