Seizure...Stroke?

Hello All,

The tail has stopped "rotting"....so far. The vet believes that this was due to a clot of some sort and not a bacterial infection given how quick and fast this came on and progressed. In a matter of hours she has lost about 2 inches of tail. The vet looked at the tail, but did not do anything with it at this time. If it falls off, and this is likely given how hard and dry it is already, I am to send a picture, clean it with betadine and protect the end with some antibiotic cream.

Littlefoot had another blood draw today and hopefully the lab will complete the right test. Hoping so much that her white count and other blood work comes back as normal. I can only hope, but am prepared if this is not the case. I will probably know by next week.

Tracie, Littlefoot was still on the Ceft as they usually draw a few extra in case of error, so I decided to continue. As this tail event has come up the vet has given me a few weeks more to continue to halt any further infection. So I am to continue this every three days for the next few weeks.

After, discussion with the specialist, it was also suggested that Littlefoot go on sub cue calcium...arrgghh! Just one more needle I guess. I was shown how to do this so I can do this at home, once every three days. Poor girl is a little pin cushion. Her calcium did go up, but not as high as expected, so they feel she is not absorbing it as well as she should be and they want to give her a "little boost". Especially as she is till getting some tremors. I am to do this for the next 4-6 weeks.

I really hope that after all this, she is getting better and that her WBC is where it should be. I will post any blood results that are warranted as the second round comes in. In the meantime here are the results form the fist draw

Sodium was redone and shown to be within normal range this time...YAY. Glucose was a little low this time (Glucose was 6.7, Range 7.1-16.3) but the vet never mentioned anything to me, so I am not going to worry about it.

Protein, Albumin, Globulin, AST (SGOT), BUN, Potassium, Chloride, CPK, all NORMAL...YAY

Phosporous .93 (range .84-3.02), Calcium 2.93 (range1.7-5.68) up from 2.40 on July 13, and Uric Acid 217 (range 71-500), again all normal, so this is also very good news.

Here are recent pics of the little trooper after her fist sub cue calcium treatment and 30 grams heavier :)

Thanks to all for your continued support.

Unfortunately, about 3 hours after my last post this sweet girl passed away.

She went pale with a black beard around 6 pm after eating her favorite silkworms. I placed her in her soft basket and waited for the inevitable. It was not the most peaceful, but I tucked her in, kissed her little head for the last time and she passed soon after.

One more little soul who took a piece of my heart.

Hello,

OH NO! I am so sorry, I definitely wasn't expecting this post. Poor girl, I hope that the subcutaneous
calcium shot wasn't too much on her. The blood values actually looked better.
I am so sorry that you lost her like this, very suddenly. We are all here for you. Bless her, she was so very
sweet & well loved, by you. I know you will always have her with you, but they definitely take a piece of your
heart & soul with them.
My condolences, to you.

So sorry to read this about Littlefoot. :( She was a real trooper and fought right to the end, she went very suddenly which is always traumatic, even though she was not well. RIP Littlefoot.

Last post for this thread.

Had a call with the vet today who called me as a follow up to Littlefoot's death. She expressed her sympathy and asked me what had happened, which of course brought back all that trauma. She then told me that she checked the calcium dose given sub cue to Littlefoot that day 5 times to ensure that the calcium treatment did not effect her adversely. Although, Littlefoot was given more, than usual that day she actually was not near her maximum dosage. I was relieved by this as I had thought this could be a culprit. I was also surprised that the vet was willing to double check on their own actions.

After discussion with the vet it was assumed that she likely had a blood clot, or several blood clots. Especially since one had lodged in her tail the day before this vet visit and before her death. Conclusion, is speculative but points to a clot that ended up lodging into her heart, maybe from a brain aneurysm that was also effecting her neurological system.

Poor girl, I only wished I had the foresight to euthanize before I took her home that night to watch her suffer, but even the vet said she looked great and that there was no reason to point to this happening as quickly as it did.

I will still be around on this site as I have a little guy named Balzor (4 months old), and will help all the rest of you where I can. After 5 beardies, with various issues I believe I can offer some good insight at this point.

Thanks to you all

You should definitely hang around, you have a lot of experience and I didn't realize , a new young'un Balzor ! How is he doing and how big is he ? Store bought, breder or rescue ? [ If you don't mind me asking ] You'll have to at least post up some info on him along the lines, even a quirky picture or two. :)
Sorry if that was supposed to be the last post, I just read that.

Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
