Okay I was sure I read on here (where I know there are several experts) that play sand is safe for beardies. But I looked it up anyway and read that no cause it gets in their eyes and nostrils etc. I was thinking of making a small sandbox for Clapton. Im not going to cover the whole floor of his house with it but I thought he may want to dig sometimes. Now Im confused what would work.

Play sand is always recommended on here but lets have some others on here respond as I dont use sand or any other loose materials

If you want to make a little play/dig box, that is more than okay. Good luck keeping the sand in just the place you want it though, it will be all over the place

Some of my dragons have preferred full sand enclosures, others seem to prefer the solid substrates instead. IMO it is beardie dependent.

I've never had an issue with the sand getting up into the eyes or nostrils. Of course sometimes there is a little bit of sand on the eyes when they dig around, but nothing that causes any health issues.
