What are your thoughts on this? I really want to have a mixture of flooring in my tank and thought that this would be a good combo. Have you tried this out with any success? If so, how did you separate the two substances?
I just like the look of it and wanted to give my beardie different options. Plus I was looking at different setups and just LOVE the look of it.. Is that selfish of me? Lol.
Grrrrrrrr.. Alright. The beardie that I am getting is housed in sand though. I wasn't going to change his setup until I upgraded his tank. Where I will add some DIY climbing toys
Will he be fine for right now? Everyone that I've talked to in person said that they never had any problems with impaction, plus isn't that what they are naturally found in? Do beardies have trouble slipping on tiles? Which tiles are best for them?
I do in face love the look of tile, I just enjoyed the different options is all.
Well, impaction isn't the only reason you wouldn't want to house on sand.
Sand is basically like forcing your dragon to live in a litter box. No matter how soon after your dragon poos you clean it up, there will always be a liquid that gets in the sand, and then germs spread, and it gets worse, and your dragon can get sick.
Tiles are much safer, and more sanitary. Plus there is no dust with tile, no chance of sand getting in the eye with tile, and tile even keeps your dragons nails in check.
Dragons actually live on hard packed clay in the wild, not sand.
I still say dump the sand when you get him, tile is only like 10 bucks to have enough to cover the entire tank. Much less than it costs to constantly be buying sand because if you are using sand, you should be totally replacing it very often, which gets expensive.
I understand how some people haven't had problems with it, but there are problems they might not be aware of. And the fact that some people have had problems with sand, is enough to make me not want to risk it with my dragons.
Is there anything I should be aware of with tiles?
Like what sizes work best, what I should use to secure them, if certain colors shouldn't be used (black retains heat, can it get too hot?), what types to stay away from, etc.
