Hello guys so I started off with sand as a substrate for my bearded dragon then I read about impaction so I had paper towel for a while then I brought some sand Matt which smelt so bad of chemicals I took it out again was thinking or repti carpet but don't like the fact it will get damp when it's toilet time so in the end I have gone for ceramic tiles slate effect they are looking very nice opposed to paper towel and should be easy cleaning I was just wondering if anyone had any thought to weather of not it would be a good idea to put a sand pit in there so that the dragon can still dig if she wants or would that still be a risk of impaction and if so what sand/soil type is best thanks
I like the look of that tile. Looks very close to the ones I use. I wouldn't introduce sand to that because it will make it difficult to clean again. I use squares of fleece that are about the size of the tile and just pile a couple up to allow for burrowing/digging. Strips or scraps in a pile would work too. They don't get caught up in claws and can be tossed in the washer if they get dirty. They also provide a bit of relief from the hard tile surface which can sometimes irritate their hands and feet.
Only just seen this I went after work and got a couple of big bowl things one with water and one with digging substrate I will however be keeping a close eye to make sure she doesn't eat too much I'm still getting used to it it takes up quite a bit of space but can always be removed if I change my mind I was thinking bigger is better for when she's fully grown and if she does wanna lay eggs eventually then it's all there picture attached
