Okay, I know this is not a subject everyone wants to talk about, but I need help. My bearded Iggy is about 1.5 months old. His lighting is right, along with lounging daily in the sun on the Lani. Iggy gets silkworms, hornworms, black fly larvae and sometimes crickets. I make him salad every day, which he never eats. He's growing like a weed and appears active. My concern is that 2 days ago his pooped changed. It was still formed with some white substrate, but a larger than normal liquid came out as well. He had several of these and he's has only eaten 1 worm a day for the last 2 days. Normally, he eats 2-3 smaller hornworms and a dish of black fly larvae. He won't eat them at all now. I'm a new beardie mom, and very worried. Thinking he may be a little dehydrated, I gave him a long bath (because it won't drink water). Not sure if I'm over reacting or if he needs a vet visit. I don't want to take him if nothing is wrong, because I keep reading horror stories about what some vets do to these poor little guys. I would really appreciate any advise.
This happens pretty often, having excess water being excreted.
Since he eats silkworms & hornworms, I am not surprised he has excess water. Do his stools
smell exceptionally bad, or not?
If not, then I would say that it is diet related, due to the silkworms & hornworms. Give it a
bit of time to see if it continues before getting a fecal done.
Are his temperatures optimal?
Yes, his lighting is good. The only thing that may be affecting him is that he runs around on our Lani most of the day, getting natural sun of course. However, we have started our rainy season in SW Florida and the last 4 -5 days its been really cloudy. I'm making him stay in his house for now and under his lights to I figure this out. Regarding the poop odor, it doesn't seem to smell any different that it has before. The only time it's really stinky is when he eats crickets, otherwise everything smells okay. Can't believe I just said that...lol. Thanks for the response, I'll see if he eats today, this really worries me. I've not had any problems with him eating until now. Keep your fingers crossed!
Yeah, that IS pretty funny! LOL
As long as the smell doesn't knock you over, I think it's safe to say it is probably fine right now.
Those insects do tend to cause more water which really is ok, it helps keep him hydrated too.
I hope the sun comes out again soon, I am sure he misses being outside.
