Hey there. I have a bearded dragon and started breeding dubia roaches a few years ago. The colony was started with roaches from 2 different breeders. Now that they've had some time to get a couple of generations going, there's some different looking roaches in there.
I separated a handful to get some pictures.

Some of the females look very dubia like, but some have other colours, and some are very long instead of have the usually female dubia shape. There are a few different looks to the males but they aren't the most cooperative while taking pics.

What I'm trying to ffigure out is if they are all just different variants of dubias , or if I started out with two completely different kinds of roaches . They were both purchased as dubias, but I didn't know as much about roaches back then and am not confident that I would have known the difference if I got something different.
Some of them just look so different and I'm interested to find out more.
Any insight is appreciated!

The ones with wings are the males, they don't really fly, it's more like a controled fall. The big ones with stubby wings are the females.

Haha I appreciate the help, but I do know the difference between male and female. I've been breeding for some time now. I'm more wondering the genetics, like the differences between one adult female to the next. And not size, because a lot of them are pregnant. More the colours, markings, shapes etc

Hi there, sorry I can't help you either. Since you haven't had any replies here you might try another forum , maybe even one dedicated to insects. I'm thinking that it's just an odd expression of color/variant like you suspected though.

I’ve been wondering this myself. I know hydration and feed can alter body dimensions, but like you I’m also seeing slight patterning differences. Don’t know if I have Dubia and discoid or what. Some of its age for sure, but I think some are just regional / breeder varietals ending up in our home colonies.

I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
