When nova scratches to get out, she does it so fervently, she's sorta injured her snout in the past, that thick scale that sits on her top lip. She's accidentally torn it in the past to where it bled but nothing too bad. Until now. I dunno if she did it in her tank or when she slid off the bed but it looks bad. Surely that's not bone.??? I've got her in the tub to wash off the sand dust and stuff and I was gonna put a dollop of honey on it, I don't want betadine that close to her mouth. But as for her tank, do we take her sand box out so she can't get sand in it.? Or, we have a 10g tank we can use as a hospital tank.? But I feel like she won't even be able to move in that one. There's no exotic that can help us at the vet today, unfortunately.

I would use the honey and take the sand out. The 10 gallon is to small.
Maybe line all the way around the bottom so she can't see out. At least that way she may be standing up the glass to beg to get out and not bump her nose.

That's what I was thinking, like maybe line a little blanket along the front glass so she can't surf so hard. But she still goes to the other corners and digs and kinda presses her snout down, like they do when they dig in the sand box so (as bad as it sounds) I'm hoping that spot hurts enough she won't really bump her nose.

She has a vet visit Monday -- do you think she'll be okay to wait until then or should we try to get her in tomorrow.?

I'd just use the honey 🍯 and wait.

Okay, I'll do that. It stopped bleeding/being bloody finally. It hasn't, like, scabbed over, but it was like some sorta layer formed over it. I don't understand how she could have done it. I mean, she went to slide off the bed and went down between the bed and Nubby's tank and she went face first but I didn't see any blood or anything on the tank, bed or anything. It's hard to imagine that she could drag her snout along the glassing enough (not even hard enough) to rip off a scale and cause an injury like that

It looks like her face is going to shed, maybe the new scales underneath are softer or something 🤔 I'm not sure but it looks painful, she sure has had a rough few weeks, poor thing 😔

Keep using the raw unfiltered honey and no crickets in the tank if feeding them --- I would ditch the sand all together if that is the substrate in the tank ---- we can help w/ ideas for other substrates if needed

She doesn't eat crickets, she's afraid of them. And we use non adhesive shelf liner, but i got a new one, this one. We just have a sandbox she likes digging in but I did pull it out and clean her tank entirely.

No, not shedding, I don't think. She just shed on her face not too long ago, it's dust from her sandbox. When she digs, she likes to use all four legs and will put/press/turn, whatever word is best, her face/snout down and so it gets sand dust all over her face, tail and legs. It came off after her bath.

That's gonna be hard to clean w/ the grooves

Ah , yeah Ruby does that also when she has loose substrate.
I don't know how an animal that little can make such a big mess.

Hello,

This happens fairly often. They are always rubbing their snouts on the tank walls. Are you planning on
getting a larger tank?
You can use the raw honey on her nose/chin daily. If you do use it at night, be sure there aren't any
insects inside of the tank so they wont be attracted to the honey.

She's actually in a 4x2x2 from Dubia, the 10g we had for Lucy and considered using it as a hospital tank for Nova. Do I just put it on her snout once a day or can I do it multiple.? She keeps rubbing it off throughout the day, but we don't leave bugs in their tanks so that's not a concern. I cleaned out her tank entirely, took away her sand box (she isn't happy about that) and put that new cotton mat shelf liner down, it says it doesn't leave any residue when they poop and is supposedly more comfy. But you say that happens often.? It's awful, I freaked out when I saw it, I thought that pale piece was bone or something. 😮‍💨😮‍💨

If she rubs the honey off, it shouldn't cause and problems to reapply it. Just can get messy. I've been treating Ruby with it for a few weeks now and she gets it all over everything. (Her little vent swelled up and started bleeding after a bout of pinworms) we started seeing improvement within a day or two of using the honey but man she smears it everywhere.
