RIP Puff 2018-2024

Sadly early yesterday morning one of my rescues Puff suddenly and unexpectedly passed away at an estimated 6 years of age.
Rescued in 2018 I worked with him to rehabilitate him back to as good a condition as was possible and his unique personality really started to shine through.
He was a funny little dragon with a slightly misshapen head and permanent pout, one little foot which only had one toe on it and a short stumpy little body and tail.
You always looked like there was nothing but elevator music inside that head of yours but you always knew how to make us laugh with your antics. You loved watching my fish tank which seemed to calm you down whenever you were mad or upset to the point we started calling those fish your ‘emotional support therapy fish’.
You made big progress in going from a scared, depressed and sick little dragon who wouldn’t touch a vegetable to an outgoing, affectionate little man who absolutely loved his peas and corn and couldn’t get enough of splashing around in a pot plant saucer paddling pool, you even learned how to bathe yourself by splashing water over your back then ‘scrubbing’ yourself with your feet.
Despite your odd looks you knew how to work the camera and gave us some truly beautiful photos over the years we had you in our lives.
You’ll be missed by everyone who knew you and hopefully one day in the future we can all be together again to enjoy all the cuddles and berries we could ever want.

Thought I’d share this so people can see what I’ve gotten done on the chance they’d like to do something similar for their own.
Puff was cremated through a pet cremation service here (Patch & Purr) so through them we got his ashes returned in a choice of box (I went with sealed niche box) which was a plain green plastic box as well as a certificate with a nice little grief poem on it.
That company also did optional keepsakes so I’ve gotten the crystal keepsake which has some of his ashes in it.
His vets took his prints so I’ve got those displayed using an acrylic stand for displaying something like a smaller agate slice.
The beardie figure I bought a couple years ago because it looked like Puff (short, rotund and yellow/orange).
The wooden box he’s in I actually found on Etsy sold by a seller called BigWoodWorks.
The boxes can be engraved but that’s done with a vertical orientation in mind and there’s options for green resin filled leaves or just plain leaves as well as various size options. For Puff I went with the large as that would comfortably fit the sealed plastic box he had.
As I wanted it orientated horizontally I went with no engraving and after it arrived I took it to a local key cutter stall to get a gold colored plaque engraved with his name and dates.
The box is really lovely and it seals well so the opening is one of the square panels which is secured by a screw so to access he interior you unscrew that screw then you can slide that panel off.
Eventually I’m going to get a nice area set up where I can put this stuff out with Puff’s nice portrait I had drawn last year.

It's good to have keepsakes. I bury my pets when they pass. When I buried Chomp I found some pieces of botryoidal chalcedony that had a really pretty caramel coloring. I kept a couple of them. At first it made me sad when I would look at it, but now it helps me remember how much I loved her. I have paw prints 🐾 from Sweet Pea, other stuff from each of the others. I think it's important to remember, I'm glad you have such a beautiful keepsake for puff.

I can feel her staring into my soul demanding food
She was having a staring contest with a mealworm. I guess I never taught her to not play with her food, lol.
