That's basically what babies do though. They bask and digest all day and go voracious when food is around :)
He will get a bit more personality as he gets older.

What is his basking surface temperature (Sorry if I missed it) Your warm side shoulder be hotter than 78 unless you are using a tight beamed basking bulb.

-Brandon
His basking spot runs about 105° give or take. He doesn’t really “bask”. He stays beside the basking spot where the surface temps are lower. In the picture, where he is laying is a usual spot for him. Up further where I have it circled is the other place he is always laying. It stays cooler than that there. I put the heat emitter on the other side of the uvb than where it is in this picture also to try to get the enclosure warmer. Having the heat emitter beside the basking light was making the basking spot too hot.
My basking light and heat emitter are on a dimmer also. His basking light is constantly dimming. (It probably drives him crazy!) I feel like Goldie Locks with these lights. LOL. The only way for me to get his basking temp right is to keep it exactly where it is, but the enclosure will not get warmer and the light is constantly dimming, sometimes it will even go completely dim like it is off. (I have turned the heat up in my house! 😂🤦‍♀️ we are sitting at 72° when we usually keep our furnace at 68° just to get this dude warmer!)
And on top of all that, I feel like that branch has him too close to his UVB, I got people saying he should be 8-10 inches away from the lights, then other people saying all the way up to 15inches is fine. So I am second guessing that also. That branch is too close in my opinion so I put it more at an angle so it isn’t directly under the uvb at the highest point. That has him away from all the lights when he is in his favorite spot I feel like.
I’ll post pictures today once his lights come on and everything gets to its normal temps. Or maybe I should post all of that in a separate post on these forums?

And where are you supposed to put the temperature probes for the temps? Maybe that’s my issue, I’m not taking the air temps in the correct spot?

You want the probe right in the light for basking temp. Your actually measuring the temp of the light not the air at that spot. For ambient just stick the probe in the general area you want to measure. Give the probe time to stabilize be for taking the reading.

Ok. I have the probe laying on the basking spot for the basking light. Basking spot seems to be a good temp as of now. Ranging 100.7-102° using the temp gun. (Dimmer is set to 100°) The heat emitter, the probe I have laying on the ground below it and set to 100° on the dimmer, it’s showing 93°, the actual dome temp is reading 170°. So I feel that is working over time, or is that normal? I have the normal thermometer dangling off of the end of the branch as of now to see what the temp in the air is. Says 84° so the temp is going up on the warm side finally, just as long as I have this heat emitter up so high. Now am I getting into a safety/fire issue? Ugh!

So this is throwing me into more questions! So now that I have these settings going well for the basking temp, warm side temp and cool side temps… this dimmer keeps lowering the light for the basking light. It will be on doing its thing for a little bit, then when the heat gets just right on the basking spot, the light slowly fades and will go completely off, a few minutes later it comes back on… So how in the world is he getting this light he needs if it keeps going on and off?!?! Shouldn’t this basking light be on bright the entire time? Do I need a different basking light? Reptizoo 150w intense basking spot is what I have. Is this maybe too high of a wattage to use? Would a smaller wattage basking light stay on the entire time?

I don't use dimmers. I adjust mine by changing the wattage and distance from the basking spot. That allows my light to be on full time.
With your heat emitter, make sure the dome has a ceramic socket and rated for heat emitters. I've burned up a couple domes over the years by ignoring my own advice lol.

Thank you!!! This 150w is just too powerful for the basking spot I think. I am going to get a smaller wattage! Uh oh! LOL I will check to see if it is ceramic and rated for an emitter asap! Thank you!!!

Lmao! Well… I went to check and yep, I now have a burnt up dome. 😂🤦‍♀️ An hour too late with learning that one. Haha! Oh well, Now I will know what I need exactly! Thank you!

Hello,

Hoping little Rex is doing better! The 150 watt is a pretty strong wattage. Did you get a smaller wattage
for his tank yet?
Definitely be sure to check the wattage capacity on the base of the ceramic light fixture dome. They rate
the wattage anywhere from 125 to 300 watts.

I apologize for not responding sooner. Life was a little busy lately. Rex seems to be doing good. He is eating well and he’s growing. He is 46grams as of Saturday. Doesn’t seem to be very active but I think it is just his personality at this point. I am keeping his enclosure clean and his lighting and temps have been good. He just chills and basks under his lights all day. When I bring out his bugs, he jumps down and comes running towards the door. He isn’t giving anything that moves a chance! LOL. He is munching on his salad really well also. He seems to be more active outside of his enclosure. He likes gaming with my son and likes to explore on the bed and on the computer desk. He takes a ride on my shoulder around the house a couple times a week for a couple minutes just to get him used to it. He has no idea what the furry golden creature is that appears wagging its tail tho! Haha!
So as of now he seems to be doing well. I have little concerns, but I think it just me being paranoid now.
-He seems just lazy. It makes me wonder if he doesn’t feel good still. But I think I am expecting a “baby/juvenile” to have more energy like a puppy. So I don’t think I am being realistic about that. LOL
-He isn’t always “hiding” when lights go out. Last night he stayed up on his branch and just slept where he was.
So other than those two things, if that is normal behavior... I believe he is doing well.

It's pretty normal 🙂
Does he gape at all when in the basking? If not it might could stand to be a tad warmer. A gaping dragon is a warm dragon. If they spend to whole day basking and don't move much they may not be getting to a comfortable temperature.

Hello,

It sounds like Rex is doing well & growing! I'm glad to hear he is active & eating a lot, too!
Sometimes they do pick up little habits like that. Maybe he will eventually bask more normally. A lot
of them gape off & on, so it doesn't seem to be causing him any issues right now.
Overall, I would say he is improving!

He doesn’t gape. He did when we first got him before I knew anything. LOL 🤦‍♀️ His air temps are hard for me. I did get it to 88° finally! I moved a few things around in his enclosure and added some stuff to help hold some more heat in there. Seems to be helping. He does seem to be more active since I got his basking temp higher. He moves around more, from his branch, to the basking spot, to his log. He is now starting to shed and I have read that they are uncomfortable during shedding so maybe that is a little bit of why also?!?!

Hello!
Yes, he is doing well and he is for sure growing. He’s gained 12 grams since Monday! lol. I do see him at his actual basking spot more finally since I got his temps a little higher also.
Thank you!!!
