I know that the Reptisun 10.0 fluorescent is the best. I've been using it with Grendel since I got her. However, I just upgraded her from a 40 gal breeder tank to the big Exo-Terra viv. I also sprung for the dual top canopy hood to go with it. The hood holds two fluorescents and two halogens. Now that I've received the darn thing, it turns out that it takes 30" fluorescents bulbs. The Reptisun doesn't come in a 30" length. So ... should I go with the Reptiglo? Return the hood? Are there other 36" hood/fixtures that people recommend? Other 30" fluorescents? Right now, I've got a fluorescent fixture, plus a fixture for a basking lamp, plus a ceramic heater when necessary. I was just hoping to consolidate. Thanks!
I know a lot of very successful breeders and keepers who use ReptiGlo without issue. I've read all of the negative comments on here about ReptiGlo and while they may have had problems a few years ago, I have seem many knowledgeable keepers use them without issue.
With all that said, I'll use ReptiSun as my first choice but wouldn't hesitate to use ReptiGlo.
Thanks. That's good to know. The hood is made to be used with the 30" Reptiglo. I might try it, and if I see any negative impact on Grendel, I'll switch immediately. I appreciate your response.
Well, I didn't see any negative impact, but I was still feeling worried about my baby, so I've got the 30" reptiglos along the back of the viv and then an 18" reptisun along half of the front. I figure that should cover the diva's uvb needs. I'll stagger the rotation of the bulbs, so she'll have fresh uvbs every 3 months. Better safe than sorry.
Even exoterra recommend using one 10.0 and using their 2.0 beside it. It was a couple years ago I read it because their is mostly exo terra product and literature around here. They said the 2.0 is to provide more visible light so a regular fluorescent and one 10.0 would be perfect.
Thanks guys. I'm loving this new viv, but getting the lighting sorted out now has been a pain. Fortunately, Grendel is happy as can be, eating and pooping and moving around, so she seems to be doing well. I appreciate all the help and input.
