Reptile show

Today we were at a small local reptile/exotic pet show.

(No, not with Taco. Don't want to expose him to such unusual things, and I even hadn't known whether pets can enter.)

The fun thing was that:
1. The leatherback. For the first time we saw a leatherback bearded dragon in real, and touched it.
2. Snakes and lorikeets. Before going there, I asked my husband whether he'd dare touching a snake this time. He said "maybe, if it's body temperature is down". There was a quite relaxed boa. I saw my husband was quite happy that it was behind glass and not (yet) taken out. They took the boa out, I touched it, he said "rather not". He instead went for the parrots, and they had some lorikeets. He was asked if he wants to have one sit on his hand - yes, of course. This seemed as the easier thing for him, but just seemed, as: The lorikeet went to his shoulder and started preening his hair, then carefully went on to do a full-ear cleaning on him :D Not just a nibble, that long black tongue went into the ear and checked each part for a minute or so. I guess he hadn't expected such a thing happening (I had however expected it somewhat, from the birds I had when I was younger). I'd have to admit that my husband has rather large ears... That bird had fun!
I bet touching the boa would have been an easier experience then the "bird spa" :D

I also do. However, only had rarely the chance to visit one. That's also why I've seen a leatherback only on pictures before. (I can now understand why people with a leatherback put them under their t-shirts or close to the neck :D I won't do that with Taco, too spiky.)
We once were visiting a large one while living in the US. Compared to that, this one was rather small and more for people, I guess, who haven't been in contact with (pet) reptiles yet - they're rare here, you'd have to buy them in special reptile stores (also, they didn't sell anything at this one, no pets and no equipment) and won't see them when picking up your dog and cat supplies from a "normal" pet store, and here is also no zoo or such. It should be approx. once per year; we had missed the previous one as things aren't well announced here.

We have kept leatherbacks from the beginning they are much easier to handle.

I don't think of my Taco as too scratchy or so, and I love his spikes very much, and how it feels touching his back - I have kind of an obsession with textures :D I just don't want to put him under my shirt or so, or near my hair as he likely would get stuck :D

Touching the leatherback reminded me quite of touching a fence/ sand lizard (lacerta agilis, I've seen they are called "sand lizard" in the US, and their German name "Zauneidechse" translates to "fence lizard").

Btw., that one was reddish; but my Spanish isn't good enough yet to ask for details. (I understood that they described that dragon as breed to feel softer to the touch, and I was able to tell them that I also have one which is more like the other one they were also showing. I also understood that they said the dragons they were showing are male as for keeping a female you would need a special permit here. That, however, I likely understood as I was already knowing that and so had a better idea of what they talked about in Spanish from certain cue words ;) )

My favorite morph is Dunner. They are exactly 💯 opposite of leatherback back. They are more spikey and rangey.
Leatherbacks should not be bred together it creates silkies.

I like reptile shows too, but I have to go to another city for that. I read your post and realized that I will definitely go to the next show. :D

Absolutely, I do that always (also when handling the owner's pets at the pet store).
In addition to transmitting really dangerous stuff - which is one reason why I do so -, they can also smell that you touched another reptile.

Well we all know that beardies don't get jealous 😉😉😉😉
Except at every other animal you interact with 😁

Aww your profile picture is precious ❤️‍🩹
Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
cookie event at my library today, quite fun! Made some bracelets for my comrades too, to give them at church in the morning. Got a busy day tomorrow even though I’m off work… i go back on tuesday so atleast I’ll have 2 days off to rewind….then back to hell lol
The head tilt tho! Aaaahhh
