I took my girl to the vet a week ago and she was diagnosed with bad coccidia and some other parasite. I was given albon and panacur. Albon was to be given 1X day, .25 ml? and she weighs 250 grams. I gave it to her for 5 days as perscribed. She had her last dose friday. Seems she is starting to go down hill again. Last night her poo looked mucusy and she doesnt want to bask and has stress marks. Was the Albon given long enough? Should I give her more? Any suggestions?
I called the vets office. Still waiting for the doctor to get back with me. I've read that typically it is given for 10 days, off 7, on 10. Does that sound right? Anyways, I gave her another dose today. My poor Stella
I think all the vets treat differently. Mine gave me three doses of Albon, to be given daily for three days. It may depend on the levels they find when they do the fecal. My beardie was a 4 for coccidia, and after finishing treatment, the levels dropped to 2. He also had pinworms, and was given three doses daily for three days as well, and those were gone at the last fecal.
One dose every day for three days, and that was it; end of treatment. I forgot to mention the treatment for the pinworms was Panacur.
My vet said when the level of coccidia is 2 or less, he doesn't treat unless the owner wants to, because treatment can be harsh on the beardie.
After I finished the medicine, the vet gave me Bene-Bac powder to dust crickets with for two weeks. It helped my beardie a lot....it restores the good bacteria that the medication kills.
I was givin it for 5 days, but after taking anti biotics it effects there systems..
You should try and get some Soya Yoghurt, it might pick them up in a couple days..
