Hey guys, want to introduce my new beardie, Reggie. I got him in May from a breeder after my previous beardie passed. He's housed in a plywood enclosure that I built new for him. The enclosure is 36"W x 18"H x 24"D.
He's a German Giant and he's 4 months, 3 days old. Right now he's about 10 1/2 inches and right at 67 grams. I just recently started him on Dubia and he loves them. Collards in the morning and he's pretty good about eating them which is a relief because my previous beardie hated veggies.
Here's a earlier pic of when he was around 2 months to compare.
I do have one quick question about the Dubia.
He eats ones that are 1/2" to 3/4" long and I dust one of his feedings per day with calcium as well as one feeding per week with vitamins. I noticed his poops have been kind of runny and smelly since he started on the Dubia. I looked online and some people have said Dubia can cause this. I'm planning on taking him at 6 months to be checked for parasites but his growth has been so good that I really don't think he has any. I have had to cut back on how many Dubia I feed, which I don't want to since he's young, but he was voracious and ate way too many the first couple times I fed him. I'd like to be able to feed him as much as he wants but I'm worried that I'm causing him discomfort when he goes to the bathroom. Should I just go ahead and feed him as many as he wants? Or should I do like 15 - 20 Dubia per feeding?
He looks quite chipper there & has great colors, too! He has definitely grown also. I am glad he is enjoying his greens/veggies & his dubias, too. I am sorry about your previous dragon's passing.
How many was he eating previously before you cut him off?
You could try just feeding one more time, to be sure he gets enough & keep the feedings a little smaller but more frequent.
Was he having trouble passing them all through?
Yes, he's pretty active and he's already starting another shed. Just finished one this past Saturday.
I was letting him eat as many as he wanted previously. He literally goes nuts over them. I am pretty good about giving them to him one by one but a couple times 2 or 3 have gotten tangled up and fallen out of the cup I use to dust them in and he gulps them down in a flash.
I work 10 hour shifts so on work days it would be tough to give him three feedings. I am able to do that on Fri - Sun though. I've just been giving him 15 - 20 dubia right now per feeding. He has no problem eating them all and his belly gets that "fat" look after.
And no, he has had no trouble going the bathroom. I noticed the past couple days that his poop has been solid, but there is just a lot of it, so maybe he just had to get used to the dubia?
