Red Urate? (Content Warning for Imagery)

Helios has been doing great since I got him. I haven’t been on here in a bit, but there’s something I’m a bit concerned about.

This morning Helios left me some poop in his tank, but I noticed that his urate was red. The red bits are kind of spotty. Not sure if it’s blood or due to some food. I currently give him Fluker’s dried mealworms and whatnot, which has red pellets in it has well. The nearest vet for reptiles is a couple hours away from me so I’d like to hear some opinions here first.

This was the first time it’s happened so I’m not sure if I should just brush it off as a one-time thing for now or not. Maybe he has too much calcium too? I know that if it’s not being absorbed it can cause red stool as well. Not sure if hornworms have anything to do with it but I did give him a couple for the last two days as well. On top of that, I was thinking that maybe he was a tad bit impacted (I did feel as if he had too many superworms, so I did give him a bath yesterday), and he just happened to pass that today and it caused his poop to be a bit bloody? I’m not really sure here so hopefully someone can talk to me about this.

Hi there, since he did eat something red that's most likely it. Anytime you see an odd color you just think of what they ate. BTW, the dried stuff along with superworms can be a bit of an impaction risk so be careful and use the prepared food very sparingly . Be sure to offer good greens like kale, turnip, mustard, collard bok choi and keep him hydrated. :)

Ah, alright. I was unaware that there was a risk of impaction with the dried stuff (they usually just crumble in his mouth when he eats the dried insects, and the red pellets do get squishy almost as soon as they get moist), but I’ll keep an eye on that as well then. I only feed the superworms as a treat, at the most 3 of them at a time. I know I can give him more but I don’t want to risk anything. Thank you for replying, though. And yes, I do make sure to give him collard greens everyday. I’ll be trying acorn squash soon so maybe he’ll like that better than his greens, as he’s rather stubborn with those.

I think I’ll take a break from the red pellets until the next time he poops just to make sure that was indeed the cause of it. I don’t want him to have parasites or anything. Again, thanks for your reply. I’m relieved to hear that he’s likely fine.

What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
